No, what we need as the Republican nominee in 2016 is a man of more glaring disqualifications. Someone so nakedly unacceptable to the overwhelming majority of sane Americans that only the GOP could think of nominating him.

This man is Rand Paul, the junior senator from a state with eight electoral votes. The man who, as of this writing, has three years worth of experience in elected office. Barack Obama had more political experience when he ran for president. That's worked out well.

Mr. Paul was in New Hampshire last weekend, speaking to conservative activists at the Freedom Summit, emphasizing the need for Republicans to do a better job of reaching out to Hispanics and African-Americans.

It's a fine message. Or rather, it would be a fine message if it weren't for Mr. Paul's long political association with Jack Hunter, aka the "Southern Avenger," a former radio shock jock who co-wrote Mr. Paul's 2011 book "The Tea Party Goes to Washington." On April 14, 2004—the 139th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's assassination—Mr. Hunter wrote a column titled " John Wilkes Booth Was Right." He also lamented that "whites are not afforded the same right to celebrate their own cultural identity" as blacks and Hispanics.

More fair to say that Bret Stephens goes on offensive against Rand, IMO.

I fail to see anything wrong with that statement.

How is Bret Stephens of the WSJ "the establishment?"

Ironic that Mr. Stephens discuss disqualifications but not qualifications. Also ironic is the failure to acknowledge the fact that we elected men with far greater glaring disqualifications in the last election cycle.

Now that being said, I could be talking about:
- Obama
- Boehner
- McCain
- all of the above.......

Isn't it ironic that the conservative media is so willing to play the race card on the only Republican Presidential prospect who's actually making a good faith effort to reach out to minorities?

I like Rand, but whitewashing his many faults isn't helpful.

It's not his job to be a mouth piece for the Rand Paul public relations team. I'm not interested in journalists propping up politicians with whom they share philosophies. That's what the New York Times is for.

Exactly.

Wow!! He sure has a short memory. Let us not forget who our glorious leader has been associated with prior to his run for office.

Political experience is not what we need and not what Obama was lacking. Politically he has succeeded. It's his lack of executive experience that he lacked. I don't know if Paul will be a good executive but at least he ran a business. I wish Paul would try out as governor before running for president but that's not the way most americans feel.

I've made this prediction before. The GOP will use more money and time to attack Rand Paul than they will to attack the Democrat front runners.

Don't Whites already have this right? Irish-Americans have St. Patrick Day, Italian-Americans have Columbus day, German-Americans have Oktoberfest, etc.

He takes Obama to task almost weekly. You should probably read more before you throw out accusations of hypocrisy.

I don't have a problem with a journalists pointing out some concerns about a potential presidential candidate, as long as he points out concerns for ALL the candidates.

I read WSJ every day. They have a mix of Conservatives and Establishment Republicans on their opinion page. Stephens is in the latter group.

2016 is a ways away. Give him time. He's not the best columnist at the top newspaper in the country for nothing.

Certainly Stephens isn't as anti-Paul as Jennifer Rubin, is he?
