I don't see what was wrong with what he said. He specifically mentioned different motives and ambitions, but even enemies will adopt methods of their adversaries if it's effective. You're right, and I actually think you could argue that Fields got the idea from ISIS. Even if he did, I sure don't think he was very fond of Islam.

But people do copy things. Suicide is a prime example. People are aware of suicide, but there is often a quantifiable spike after a celebrity commits suicide. I'm sure all of those people were aware of suicide, and had varying reasons for it, but the immediate awareness and unfortunate newsworthiness of the initial suicide seems to trigger something.
