Why the Streep tirade is bad for Hollywood

No one is questioning their right to criticize or complain. It's a two-way street, however.
I personally prefer my dancing monkeys to just dance.
It's generally bad business to piss off half of your potential consumers, but Meryl is basically retired and doesn't care about the future of her industry.
It's also bad to pick a war with a president who has announced plans to fight China over trade and technology, including intellectual property rights.
I like my entertainment, so I don't plan on boycotting anyone. I'm also not a proponent of illegally downloading movies and music. That could change. My son recently watched Hacksaw Ridge on-line for free. I normally would have scolded him for that. But no more.
And as technology changes, the opportunities for pirated content will increase. Trump could be an ally in fighting this type of thing.

I doubt any president will be good with just letting China do whatever they want, even if that inadvertently helps Meryl Streep and George Clooney. Stopping them is another issue.
As for the illegal downloading, you seem to be of the mind that it's stealing since you would have scolded your son. If that's your philosophy, sacrificing your own integrity and teaching your son to do likewise just to get back at Meryl Streep doesn't make much sense. She will never know about it.

basically reinforced the perception that liberal elites think America is mostly comprised of beer guzzling, mma watching, football watching retards who do not appreciate "the arts" (as if her movies are "the arts)
it was pretty hysterical. it's not bad for Hollywood, but rather bad for democrats. they need to win back voters and it's hard to change the perception when someone says something so cringe worthy on such a large platform.

It has to do with the industry in general, not Streep in particular. She is just the topic of the day.
And as with all teenagers, you often have to pick your battles. Defending the income stream of liberal Hollywood is way down the list.

it didn't help them with the ratings because who would anticipate such a lol speech, but it helped the golden globes get a lot of press and attention

she won an oscar 2-3 years ago. Could you all sound more insecure over this nonstory? For someone who apparently doesnt matter, she's generating a whole lot of hysterical reaction over here.
