On a practical level, the dirty little secret about estate taxes is that they don't raise very much money and most likely wouldn't even without all the shelters and so forth currently in place and really tick a lot of people off, so they're a political loser.

I would submit that in an economic sense, "quickly" isn't necessarily better and in fact, is arguably worse.

I'm listening. say there is a inheritance cap (x amount of dollars can be set aside per dependent) and the rest is ceded to uncle sam. how would it be more detrimental economically for that to occur vs the current system of letting large swathes of money lay idle and untaxable until doled out to their recipients.

My oversimplified argument would be that a path to lower income taxes could be found in redistributing/thieving that money which would sit in trust, leading to more disposable income for more Americans which would lead to further strengthening of the economy.

youth coaching is hard (and I am an awful teacher). I have done it a few times with some of my kids' teams and I hate it. props for that.

You also have more black millionaires than anytime in history. Wealth distribution is incredibly important to growing more jobs within black community. The problem is you can't say " white folk should pay higher inheritance tax than blacks" and so this becomes an issue with not just the white donor class of democrats but across the party demographically.

The rabid liberals somehow believe that's the governments money and that's cool until the money dries up for the political class.

Morally speaking, people who stand to inherit large sums haven’t done anything to earn that money

People who sit on their arse or frick up their lives haven't done anything to earn that money, either.
