Why is Bill Ayers not in prison?

Was he pardoned or something?
Did some reading today and he bombed like 3 federal buildings and became a fugitive but was never brought to justice. Now he just lives in Chicago and brags about his past activities in his books.
What the hell. Imagine if someone did that today.

The group he was a part of bombed the buildings (some of his friends were directly involved). He, himself, could not be tied to the scene of the crime nor to any explicit conspiracy to commit the crime. At least that's my understanding.
