That was his nickname for years before the Canal St. Madam deal popped up.

NY’s lieutenant governor at least serves as president of the state senate, essentially a Vice President at the state level. Some research shows me that La’s LT gov’s main job is tourism... wow...

Texas as well.

The Lt Gov is in charge whenever the Gov is out of state, and if something happened to the governor, he would take over.

But... I do think we could get rid of it, and just assign another person the interim duty.

I'd rather have Joey as Lt Governor

Ahh, the hell with it. Let's get Kip to run for governor. From the republican party, from the democrat party, from the pimp party, whatever. He won't try to screw the state, and he would be the most accessible governor we've ever had. You could find him at a happy hour in BR most days.

As a republican, I would volunteer for Kip's campaign. Dude is the absolute man.

The job of lieutenant governor of La seems like a joke.

"Lil Pinky" has waaaaaayyyyy too many skeletons in the closet. Lt Governor is off of the voter's radar so he has never had a real background check on him which would quickly raise the alarm bells for Louisiana voters.

"Jeanette Maier, the so-called “canal street madam,” says that her brothel serviced Billy Nungesser Jr., president of Plaquemines Parish before he was a political figure.

Maier claimed today in an interview with WWL that Nungesser visited her establishment in the 1980s, and that his father, a long-time political figure, had to pay Nungesser’s $10,000 tab at the brothel."

or this little doozie:

"Ms. B. placed me in contact with persons Ms. C. and Ms. D. on a phone conversation about Mr. A. Mr. A. may hold a high political office in Plaquemines Parish. Ms. C. met Mr. A. for the first time just over 10 years ago. She met with him for the first time and was paid for her services. He did not desire a man or woman’s natural services. He wanted a woman who liked other women. When the services began, She strapped on a sexual device and began servicing him. When she was finished, she withdrew the strapped on device and he expelled an undesirable body product all over the bed. She told him that he would have to clean up the mess, and that she was not paid for that duty. She told me that he was the most disgusting person she had ever met……"

or this one:

"In 1997, Nungesser was sued for damages by a man named Ryck H. Soto, who had previously worked for Nungesser’s General Marine Leasing. According to the suit, which was filed in Orleans Civil District Court, Soto alleged that he was “wrongly terminated” after Nungesser allegedly made “sexual advances.” Nungesser denied all the allegations, which included requests for oral sex and “exposing his genitals.”"

I think I would like to see the electoral system changed so the lt. Gov ran on a ticket with the governor. That way there would he or she would be another member of the gov's cabinet and could tackle issue of substance.

Most high level jobs in Louisiana government that are elected are a complete waste of taxpayer money.

The Treasurer, Secretary of State, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Commissioner of Agriculture, and Commissioner of Insurance are all positions which pay six figure salaries for guys to sit around and let their appointed staffs, many of whom also make six figures do all the work.

Really, really disagree with you assessment of Treasurer and Att General...and to a much lesser extant SoS.

Those serve as independent checks on the governor (and other agencies). It's like division of duties at a macro level. Almost all states have an elected treasurer or comptroller.

The other three I agree with.

Except that we elect yucksters like Kennedy and Schroder and Landry to lob political grenades, not to do the job.

to make my point here are Schroder's goals as treasurer.

quote:

As Treasurer, he will continue to push for a streamlined budgeting process, capital outlay reform, and controlling the out of control growth of government.

Here are the responsibilities of the treasurer:
-disburses (pays out) public money as required by law
-keeps a record of the money received and disbursed. -serves as the state’s banker and invests funds in the treasury that are not currently needed in the state’s operations.
-serves as chairperson of the State Bond Commission, -is a member of the Interim Emergency Board and the boards of several public employee retirement systems.

We need someone with relevant knowledge and skill in the position and it should not be elected.

Yeah, well that's on the citizens isn't it?

That said, Landry is at least keeping a check on the Governor's attempts to expand his power through extra legal maneuvers.

And Kennedy was DEFINITELY a grenade lobber. But I can tell you he ran his office well. It is a serious office that doesn't make news when things go right. That's why he had to "invent" issues to get his name in the paper. But if things go badly it is a big deal.
