It's a pretty even split by income actually.
For incomes greater $150,000 per year, 47% lean Republican and 45% lean democrat. Not a big difference.
The stereotype that conservatives are less intelligent comes from the splits in education. For people with at least a bachelors degree, lean dem edges out lean repub 49% to 42%. For people with at least a masters, it's 57% lean dem, 35% lean repub.
Based on that, it appears that Republican's slight advantage among those earning 6 figures is a result of people in high paying blue collar jobs.

Democrats do poorly with high income groups
Both parties are ran by elite folks who rely on morons. The Republicans are mostly led by country club, old money types who rely on the took err jerbs/guns/bible folk to win the south and midwest. Democrats are ran by limousine liberals who rely on poor black and latino folk to win things outside of the northeast and greater Los Angeles area.
