Ever since the creation of Medicare/Medicaid in 1965, the percent of the American population without health insurance remained between 11% and 15%, peaking at 17% in 1995 and then again briefly in 2010.

Everyone I knew before ObamaCare mainainted some sort of insurance, either through a plan provided by their company, or through some supplemental plan they purchased that provided specifically what they needed.

So, you're telling me we passed a mandatory law that affected the plans of 85% of the population, because 15% didn't have insurance, either because they didn't want it, or didn't need it?

Someone help me wrap my head around this mentality.

Oh, and btw, now that Obamacare has had time to get the kinks worked out, we are still only at 9% of the population without health insurance

All that work and price increases on hard-working American families, so we could subsidize plans for 3% of the population?

We may already be a Communist society...

It's simple, more government gives the politicians more power and more money.

Not even close to getting the "kinks" worked out.

9%

15-9=6%

Is 6% of the population signed up for obamacareless? That seems high.

No "may already be" about it but I think you mean socialist society.

I think that I read recently that of the people signed up on Obamacare, only about 2.5 million people are signed up for private insurance. The remainder are as a result of the expanded Medicaid.

The 15% is too high as it includes illegals and those without insurance for part of the year. The number is close to 7-10%. Take out those who just didn't want to buy insurance and it drops another 2-3%.

Why is it that we care about the 1% of the population that is homosexual and what their rights should be?

Homosexuals should have the same rights as all Americans, but health insurance is not a right.

No, nor is anyone entitled to it, except maybe vets, but access to affordable health care should be a right. No one should be denied or priced out.

Which is pretty much what ACA is doing to the middle class. When rates have gone from around 500 to 1600 for the same family, it's just not sustainable in the long run. At this rate of increase, by the time I turn 50 insurance will be 3k a month or more.

You're correct it's nebulous. But so am I - those problems I listed resulted in Obamacare. If the GOP screws up this golden opportunity they have been handed, we could end up with something even closer to Universal care when the pendulum swings the other way one day.

Agreed. And the shite they were forced to buy was useless with 10k deductibles.

I no longer have health insurance benefits, although I still pay the premiums. As a matter of fact, my premiums are higher now than they were before this failed ACA.

Premiums increased and the deductibles skyrocketed to the point that a healthy person would simply be better off not having insurance at all. I'm sure many millions of Americans are in this exact predicament.

frick the Democratic Party and their socialist intentions, what a disgrace they are. Thank goodness real Americans spoke and removed these idiots from power.

Exactly. Prices increased while quality decreased, just so 3% of the population who didn't want or need healthcare in the past, could now have it on your dime.

This is madness.

I know a couple people paying for health care without ever using it, so surely there have to be people who don't pay for it because they don't find it beneficial to them.

The ACA is nothing more than a massive expansion of Medicaid. They might as well passed a tax that us working people pay so we can just give it to the parasites of our society. At least that way, our plans wouldn't have become unaffordable.

Now, we all have garbage insurance so a few can take a free ride.
It will be nearly impossible to unravel this freaking mess that the Deomcrats have created.
