Why are people saying MSM instead of THE media?

MSM are "traditional forms of mass communication, such as newspapers, television, and radio (as opposed to the Internet), regarded collectively."
People are acting like MSM is the "liberal media". MSM is how any of us know anything. Unless you only look up thinks on Wikipedia you are getting your news from MSM. I personally watch live broadcasts of Trump and Spicer and listen to what they say and fact check as best I can. I listen to FOX and CNN to hear conflicting sides of the MSM and make my own conclusions.
Figure out your own way to be informed but if you aren't incorporating MSM into your information gathering then you aren't listening to the only sources that have the experience and access to report the news.

Weird. I don't know anyone in real life that reads Brietbart or InfoWars. No, I do not read those outlets either.

So because the MSM is how most people get their info, it can't be liberal?
The point of separating out the MSM is that the MSM is clearly different than the host of online and alternative media. The MSM SHOULD be held to a higher standard. I don't care that HuffPo is leftist and inflammatory. That's their "thing." Nor should anyone care that Rush and most talk radio is right wing.
But we should expect these media titans to be objective, and frankly just better, than other sources precisely for the reasons you mention. BECAUSE they inform so many people, they have a greater RESPONSIBILITY.

CNN, Fox, CBS etc are just one NEWS outlet. People are turning away from them in droves because they have been spewing lies for decades.
People want the truth and you can't get the truth from CNN. So alternate news sources are a must.
Typically alternate news sources are just as biased as CNN but bias isn't the question. Truth is the bigger question. And Alternate News Outlets although biased is a place you can get the truth.
