Black activists tell Democrats: Put an African American on 2020 ticket
BALTIMORE
African American activists have a message for Democrats: If you want to win back the White House, strongly consider a black person on the ticket.
On their list are a growing roster of black politicians, notably Sens. Cory Booker, D-N.J. and Kamala Harris, D-Calif., former Attorney General Eric Holder and Deval Patrick, former governor of Massachusetts.
Turnout among African Americans in the 2016 presidential election was the smallest in 20 years. It’s a big concern as the NAACP holds its annual convention this week in Baltimore, its first major gathering since the election.
Hilary Shelton, head of the NAACP’s Washington bureau, said “It could be difficult” for Democrats in the future without an African American on the ticket.
But he added that the black community is “very sophisticated” politically, and having an African American is not essential if white candidates “are speaking our language, which means that they’re addressing our concerns, they’re going to get our support.”

Black activist too biased? Ok, how about Kamala Harris as the HRC donor annointee
Some key facts from 2016 Prez Election
1. Blacks turnout was the lowest it has been in 20 years...at 59%
2. Black demo is roughly 12% of the US population
3. Hispanic turnout for the 2016 Election was 40% w/out a Hispanic on the ticket
Seeing the growing #'s of Hispanics in our country, year after year, it's surprising the Dems haven't even truly considered putting up a Hispanic man or woman. IMO Barack was a flash in the pan - smooth talker, looked gentile, well spoken, inspiring and educated. He had a newness to him. The new crop Dems are considering fielding do not have that same allure.

Sorry but Hillary didn't lose because blacks decided not to vote. Black activists have been duped into believing that being black is enough to win back the White House. Obama benefited from white guilt, but now that the first black President has been elected (twice), that white guilt has subsided. The D's would have better luck with a Hispanic candidate this time around.

I don't know if it was as much "white guilt" as it was that Obama timed his run perfectly. The country was already set to swing back to the left after 8 years of Bush. Obama was young, articulate and portrayed a message of optimism and hope. That's why he blew past the presumed favorite, Hillary Clinton.
The country has changed since 2008 (as it always does) and the left had swung the pendulum to the far left (Transgender crusade? Really?) What you saw in 2016 was a swing back to the right in order to get closer to the center again.
Just running a black person because he's black isn't going to work. The novelty of that kind of candidate has worn off.

Agreed and that has everything to do with racism. The activists would vote for a criminal over a cracker in any election, just how it is. No logic behind it other than preference for your race.

I think the white guilt thing has reared itself even more now that Trump is in office. Muslim apologists are everywhere, pussy march b/c the "white man" is POTUS, etc etc. These people are scary as frick and a threat. Instead of honest discourse, they'll beat you over the head with a bike lock

Those 12% get so much attention because they are clustered in small areas which means electoral votes. If it was 22M (minus the 8 million or so who are ineligible to vote) black people spread evenly across 50 states, no one would give a frick about pandering to them.
As for this guy's comments about blacks being politically sophisticated. LOL For the whole that isn't true about Americans, and it's even less true about the 22M black Americans, who are as a group even dumber than their white counterparts.

The white guilt was in regards to blacks. White people didn't want to be seen as (or feel) racist for not voting for the first black man. That's now out of the way and they won't necessarily feel inclined to vote for another person because they are black. They might feel that way for a woman (a lot of Hillary's voters felt that way, thus the glass ceiling mantra), for a Hispanic, a homosexual, or some other "oppressed" minority.

Liberals deny this , of course, but the proof is there for anyone to see . Remarks like "it's time for a black President" were common in 2008. Not "if he's qualified there should be no problem electing a black man" just "it's time for a black President" same thing in 2016 "it's time for a woman President" no it's time for a qualified President, and if he happens to be black fine, or if he happens to be a she, fine.

Hmmmm didn't know that. I really like Booker at one point even though I'd probably never vote for him truth be told. He subscribes to the "blacks are consistently persecuted in the courts b/c they are black!" philosophy. No can do.
In two years time, this discussion will be outdated though

So is Kamala not okay? They prolly want Booker.
