You may be a partisan kook that has full blown Trump Derangement Syndrome but you're exactly right here.

One of the most biggest flaws Donald Trump has is that his loose cannon mouth has no self discipline and no filter towards major issues that continually undercuts his own staff in the White House. Two recent examples of this is the travel ban tweets that his staff denied previously and the interview with Lester Holt over the comey firing that completely ruined the Rosenstein narrative. He has a nasty habit of driving counterproductive new cycles with his own provocative statements that's already bit him in the arse a couple times.

When Donald Trump can sustain exercising some self discipline with his loose cannon mouth and his twitter account and not continually undercut his own staff, the GOP Congress will be fine with going to bat for President Trump on TV because they can trust he won't contradict them days or even hours later.
