I know many of you believe that government should have a reduced role in many areas of life (education, healthcare,etc.). You can even make the argument that strictly speaking, the constitution does not mandate GOVT involvement in many cases.

However, do you ever wonder what would happen if the opposite became true. Do you know what happens when private enterprises to control everything. Once a business becomes big enough, it practically has government powers (de facto). They could inflate the costs of essential products and services (sound familiar) and they can create arbitrary barriers of entry into positions with the intention of discriminate against certain parties (de ja vu).

This isn't a stab at conservative ideology or the GOP specifically, but I feel that history has shown that we need a balancing act of business and government. No regulation for business will simply lead to the same result of big government. As for state rights, I don't see how an individual state can hold a candle to large corporate interest holding the means of production and political protection.

For TLDR
I think these are accurate quotes from what I can gather, but if you have more veritable proof please tell me.

quote:

Permit me to issue and control the money of a nation, and I care not who makes its laws! Mayer Amschel Rothschild

quote:

"All the perplexities, confusions, and distresses in America arise, not from defects in the Constitution or confederation, not from want of honor or virtue, as much as from downright ignorance of the nature of coin, credit, and circulation." - John Quincy Adams

quote:

"For more than a century, ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure - one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it." - David Rockefeller

Or when was the last time a corporation forced me to give them 30% of my income for basically nothing in return?

Big Corporate is the lesser evil.

They may gouge me, prevent me from engaging in commerce with them, or give me a hard time about it, but they have no legal right to arrest me or remove any of my freedoms. Big government does.

Big corporate by far. In fact, big corporate becomes far more of an "evil" when big government cronyism occurs.

I would hope you and most Americans understand that big government and corporate America are so intertwined they are essentially the same entity. This is why I'm very disappointed that Trump has not starting banging the congressional term limits and lobby reform drum.

Trump will never drain the swamp as long as politicians are able to park their asses in the D.C. Brothel for 30-40 yrs. If/when the cozy relationship between politicians and corporate lobbyists is minimized we'll see the swamp begin to drain.

Even if and when it is transparent, that doesn't take away the "evil" potential it can exert. Some evil governments were quite transparently evil.

You say that like theyre not completely intertwined. Big govt is an illusion brought to you by: corporate sponsors and big banking.

Pretty simple stuff, guys

Absolutely, just look at the voluminous IRS tax code and it's real easy to see that the current tax system is constructed by corporate America's lobbyists/lawyers. The tax laws that affect 90% of the populace could be printed on 4-5 pages, the other +40,000 pages are for the corporations and uber wealthy.

I'd prefer a middle ground, but if I had to choose I'd go big government. I would because at least the people have recourse against the government via voting people out of office and putting people in that reflect what we want (see e.g. Trumps rise to power).

If the government was actually completely hands off of all buisness, then we as people would have no power over corporate entities because we don't vote who runs them.

The counter is the market will determine and we the people have control over what we buy, but in your hypo (with no regulations against monopolies), eventually one corporate entity would control each of their respective markets. When it comes to luxury items, the market theory would probably be sufficient, but for necessities it wouldn't; I'm thinking like pharma companies, insurance and things if that nature where you don't really have an option of buying/not buying. I'd much have recourse in those situations than not, and we wouldn't if it was total corporate domination with no regs.
