When did Russia become enemy #1?

Can someone explain to me when and how Russia became an enemy of the US? What changed between Obama telling Romney the 80's wanted their foreign policy back to where we are now? What am I missing? Forgetting Trump for a second, Im very uneasy with politicians vocally pushing a narrative of Russia being an enemy in an attempt to gain a political advantage here. At some point political rhetoric will create a very real enemy and it's starting to feel like we are getting to that point. We are certainly to a point where some of the usual suspects (McCain) have backed themselves into a corner to such a degree that they publicly admonish and cast suspicion upon anyone who wishes to improve relations with Russia.

I've been asking this since November and don't get a straight answer.

What about China's invasion of the Spratly islands, hacking our infrastructure, refusing our exports, and threatening our allies in Asia? Oh, I forgot, China's check to the Clinton foundation went through. Carry-on.

The motherland thanks you for your service.

Nope. Obama scoffed at this notion just 4 years ago.

The Military Industrial Complex must have a boogeyman to be successful. Currently, we have Russia, Iran, and terrorism.
That's enough to keep the sheeple worried and spending billions on shite we don't need and wars that never end.

So why didn't Obama do anything about it?
I mean, he did promise Putin BJs upon reelection. Seems like Obama would hold some responsibility, no?

1. They have tons of nukes
2. They have tons of people
3. They don't kow-tow to the US
4. They don't need the US and really don't trade with us...
(U.S. goods exports to Russia totaled just $11 billion in 2013, equivalent to less than 0.1% of U.S. GDP. U.S. goods imports from Russia totaled $27 billion, just under 0.2% of U.S. GDP.)
Oh...and the biggest reason...
They have...
Russia has the largest reserves, and is the largest exporter, of natural gas. It has the second largest coal reserves, the eighth largest oil reserves, and is one of the largest producer of oil.
And they don't give a frick.
This makes the US powers that be uneasy as the sole controller of the world.

When the left needed a way to remove Trump from office. They will try to avoid assassination if they can because so many people are seeing through their lies now.
But Trumps life is in jeopardy I sure hope he realizes that.

So what?
That doesn't change the fact that the USSR/Russia has been used by demagogues as our bogeyman since the Truman Doctrine.

After WWII.

Obama is the least qualified person EVER to be President - and his qualifications were at their absolute low in foreign policy.

There are no more practical people on Earth than Russians. It's essentially their religion - pragmatism.

Meh. I wouldn't worry about it. Russia will act rationally. It's the mullahs whose nuclear program Obama greenlit and funded you have to worry about - they WILL use nuclear weapons in anger if they think it furthers the cause of jihad and the caliphate.

The USA invaded Iraq, bombed Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Afghanistan, Libya, co-opted Russian spies among others, shat on the ABM treaty, and hacked a bunch of shite, including its own citizens.
What's your point?

Those are both from today. Don't know if you're looking for a body count of covert assets, the trillions spent to defend Europe against Soviet aggression, the training and materiel provided to our enemies in Latin America, Korea, and Indochina, or the attempted subversion of our domestic institutions and penetration of our intelligence services.
I mean what does an enemy look like to someone like you?
