I just don’t understand if it’s the economics of it or a concern of possible failure in a conventional environment with Taiwanese forces. China has nukes and we have no obligation to Taiwan. It’s the same except for the terrain

Why would China nuke Taiwan?

They claim Taiwan and want it.

You don't nuke something you want.

China doesn't have the naval and air superiority needed.

The 100 miles of water separating them is kind of a big deal.

Mu brain ponders if China is waiting for the US politicians to be the greedy war hawks they know they are and baiting them into Ukraine. Let them get involved then open a two front war.

Or hope the US is too involved with Europe to give a shite about Asia.

They don't want the rest of the world to sanction the shite out of them like we are doing with Russia. A lot of our semiconductor companies make their chips in Taiwan and those companies would pull out of there and move the operations somewhere else. So China would not only be sanctioned but lose a big part of Taiwan's economy as well.

Beijing is not stopping, in fact they are warning foreigners to stay out of it. They will handle it differently. They won't go barging in like Russia is doing to Ukraine.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang has warned against separatist inclinations and foreign meddling in Taiwan, which Beijing considers to be under its sovereignty. China wants to develop peaceful ties and ultimately reunify with the island, the official told an annual parliamentary session on Saturday.

Xi is going to invade Taiwan. They are either watching the Russian invasion to learn, or they are waiting until they can inflict maximum damage to the US, but rest assured, they will be invading Taiwan within the next few days or weeks.

The thing is they don’t even need to invade. Naval blockades work great. Starve them out until they give up.

Do you really think a communist country, where the rulers have literally everything they could ever dream of, care what the rest of the country may be suffering from? No, is the correct answer... Putin and Xi have absolutely no worries in the world, if the population suffers from famine or drought, that doesn't concern them. Nuclear winter, they have bunkers that will house them for decades. The same goes for the "rulers" of the US... that is why we are f'ed

I don't think you are seeing this all the way through. We have a massive chip shortage in the world right now. It takes years to build a new chip factory. Intel is doing that here and has said they won't begin operations for 3 years. That's a life time in the tech business. If China takes Taiwan they will own a very important piece of the world's tech market. It will be economic chaos to sanction China. And you can bet they'll use every bit of power that will give them.

The agreement signed by US and China when these two countries begin foreign relationship said "Both countries acknowledge Taiwan is part of China".

But US has the reputation of do not follow the agreement it signed.

The following is what stop China from unite Taiwan:

1). The possible military intervention by US.

China is building up its nuclear warheads from current 300+ to 1000+. Built up its navy.
This needs time.

It has developed the missile to sink the aircraft carriers.

It has trouble to deal with B20 bombers. It is working on it.

2). The possible economy sanctions:
China is watching the sanctions hit on Russian.
You may already noticed, China has the backup plan for most of the areas: union pay, Beidou for GPS, CIPS etc.

The pieces missing are:
a). semiconductor machinery: China is developing own 28nm end to end system. Should have it this year.
Need multiple iterations to get into 14nm, 7nm. This along can take 20 years.
The most advanced is 3nm.

b). Operating System: Some linux variance. Not as good as Windows. But OK.

c). CPU: Some Chinese companies working on it. The most recent release is on par with AMD 3 years ago. But need the company to grow and catch up.

3). The living standard gap between Taiwan and China.

Taiwan GDP is 29K$ per cap. China is 10K.
China want to bring this to equal level so it is easier to integrate Taiwan.

We are.
We have a treaty with Taiwan.
And we will honor it.

Except China controls most of the world. The USA won't sanction them out of fear

A large percentage of critical microchips is made in Taiwan. I think something like 70 something percent of the worlds microchips is made in Taiwan and we are talking about chips that has both civilian and defense uses. That is why the world will probably care about Taiwan way more than Ukraine in the end.

Also that part of the world is a major shipping lane I do believe. If China takes Taiwan they can control the shipping routes in that area disrupting the flow of trade. China pretty much can cut the worlds trade and ability to acquire microchips used to make modern weapons if they take Taiwan. That’s why this will be a huge deal if China ever decides to make a move.

Now’s a good time to watch, learn & take advantage of how the US & Nato operate vs Russia. The sanctions have increased trade between Russia & China. What other benefits will come for China?

If you sanction the entire world you have essentially sanctioned yourself.

I would gather it’s all about timing. At this point it’s not if, but when.
