Political assasination are illegal but we are still technically at war with NK so that blurs the lines. If Trump orders it, what do you think would happen with a CIA sponsored bullet through him? Would the whole regime crumble or would there be a power struggle and we end up with someone potentially worse in charge? I wonder if we have the capability, if we've infiltrated that far to get a shot..

Link I found, yeah Slate.. LINK

quote:

No, but the exact regulations are murky. Gerald Ford's 1976 executive order on foreign intelligence activities (issued after the disclosure that the CIA had plans to do in Fidel Castro) explicitly prohibits government employees from engaging in "political assassination." This certainly rules out killing heads of state through covert means. It's unclear, however, who else is off limits. The 2001 Authorization for the Use of Military Force Against Terrorists, a congressional resolution that grants the president the right to use "all necessary and appropriate force" against those who helped commit the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, arguably licenses the CIA to go after terrorists with impunity.

I think the regime would simply fall into Junta hands and operate as they have been. The question is Kim taking orders from Junta or is Junta taking orders from Kim? Assassination could set off preemptive strikes on South Korea.

I am sure that some "contractors" are already feeling the situation out,and have been for a long time.
It obviously isn't so easy.

Didn't China today say that if Trump tries a "regime change" then China goes after USA.

It should be China not us that does it. I find it hard to believe that not quite a few in Kim's inner circle aren't in China's pocket. They need to have a coup to kill the entire Kim family, and exile anyone under 18 never to return to NK.

I haven't heard this, but I feel confident in dismissing this. No way in hell would China say this to us.

I don't see China doing it. They want stability, Kim isn't stable but taking him out might be worse.

What would be more stable than killing him and his family and installing a puppet to introduce them to the modern world? They have every reason to want Emperor Fudd dead.

We have gotten ourselves in a bad situation. This is where buying all that Chinese made cheap stuff, comes back to bite us in the arse.
Too much big business depends on trade with China. We have lost the ability to act as a unified front.

Change is by definition unstable. China wants the status quo on the peninsula. And we've been content with maintaining the status quo up until now and the Chinese have to pick a side.

China isn't crazy. They have lost any control there was over NK. Now they are simply leveraging trade for North Korea. Meaning, US drop the currency manipulation in exchange for support taking out Kim.

If he isn't, then kill him as well. It should be up front that all of his advisers are on the Chinese dime and will kill him at any time if he defies them.

How? Buying all their shite is our saving grace to take our side over the North Koreans.

You seem to be too dumb to see why this is actually a good thing.

The status quo on the peninsula is South Korea as their #3 trading partner. That is what they want to maintain, not the single most horrible moment in their country's history.

That sounds good but I think the reality is that it isn't that easy. Cutting off the head creates a power vacuum that people are going to try to fill, and the desire for power will make some of those go to extraordinary lengths to get it. I'm not sure China (or the US for that matter) could control that .

Yes but the death of Kim or regime change of any sort upsets the balance. They'd rather just let NK have their nukes and never actually use them. The US has obviously decided the a nuclear armed NK is unacceptable. So we've reached an impasse with China at this point.

I've seen where China said if we strike first they'll have a problem. But they've said if NK is first they're (NK) on their own.

IMO China is using this to keep the US away from them. I can't see them doing anything to the US though if we do attack first.

Gotta believe that everything that is in the news is propaganda from all sides trying to please their own people.
