I've listened to several guests on War Room discussing the cost of illegal immigration to US taxpayers and I've heard the $500 billion number thrown out there several times.

Does this^^^^ seem believable? I really have no idea.

The proponents of mass illegal immigration say it's a net benefit to the US because it helps suppress wages of lower class Americans and illegals also pay taxes.

Those who oppose mass illegal immigration say the government is spending $500 billion to support the +20 million illegals who are basically being cared for/supplemented by US taxpayers.

What say you?

I would have to know if that is a net amount and whether it includes economic contributions to GDP or not.

And, of course, show your work.

$500 billion seems high but without knowing the costs for education, medical, food stamps, etc. it's hard to know.

Don't forget we are funding an agency to prevent this and stopping them from preventing it.

If you could get a tally on property damage, injuries (medical costs), deaths, lost productivity, additional law enforcement needed for the drug trade, etc, then $500B might be reasonable. They should try to break out those numbers though.

Here are notes from a video from FAIR on this topic.

Fiscal Burden of Illegal Immigration

Federation for American Immigration Reform

There are claims that there is a net benefit, but this is not true.

Recent analysis by FAIR found that illegal aliens and their children cost the US taxpayer $182B a year.

This community contributed about $31B to the economy.

Thus the net effect is a cost to the taxpayers of about $151B a year.

This is a 30% increase from 2017.

They estimate about 21 million illegal aliens (plus children), each incurs a cost of about $8776 annually, which is $957 annually per taxpayer.

Tax revenue generated by illegal aliens cover 17% of the costs they incur.

The biggest cost item is education - it costs $77B/yr to educate the children of illegal aliens.

$47B/yr is devoted to costs within the justice system. Arrests, incarceration, border security, removal, taking care of illegal alien minors etc.

$41.7B/yr for health care - includes unpaid hospital expenses, Medicaid fraud, as well as state programs like MediCal.

$13.6B/yr in welfare - cash, food, school meals.

Ignoring the justice system costs, we're in the area of $130B/yr. That is just government spending and doesn't capture the true damage / costs involved.

Here is my border security strategy. There is a lengthy pdf that goes over this in more detail at this link: LINK

The pdf mentioned above is an EO I will sign on day 1.

This is a national emergency. We are being invaded at the border and this is an existential threat to the nation.

500k Troops at the border. The entire border covered with boots on the ground. Engineer and similar units will put obstacles in place, and build a wall.
Treated as a combat deployment. Combat pay, tax free etc for military and Border Patrol.
Border secured. Nothing but commerce at ports of entry can enter the country.
All federal money to illegals cut off. Remittances taxed at 50%. EO ending anchor babies.
Those that self-deport get money as they cross back into Mexico. All must leave. No contrived status ploys from Biden administration will be honored.
Cartels designated as terrorist organizations. China a state sponsor of terrorism and hostile nation. China must pay for each student studying in the US. $500k per semester, paid in silver or gold. No Chinese purchases of land or anything else related to commerce. China owes us $25T for COVID and intellectual property theft. All Chinese assets in the US reviewed for national security relevance. No travel from China entering the US, because China can't be trusted to handle pathogens and not unleash them on the world.
No military action launched into Mexico.
World Health Organization is an arm of the Chinese government. Gets same designation as China. No funding of the WHO. US will sever all ties and anyone connected to the WHO will be looked at for possible ties to the WHO's nefarious mission.
United Nations cut off from all funding. They contribute to the border invasion. Seizing their building and assets in the US, and expelling every UN member.
World Economic Forum. Everything creating immigration pressure is pushed by them. Also they stand in direct opposition to everything our nation stands for. They are as great a threat as any nation state could be. Designation as terrorist org and hostile nation. I will not allow the WEF to exist.
Flores loophole ignored. It's unconstitutional. E-verify mandatory. Visa overstays have to go.
If Congress passes amnesty I will ignore it. It's unconstitutional. Amnesty is an overt violation of constitutional provisions to safeguard the nation, rewards / incentivizes / invites lawless behavior. It is tantamount to national suicide and Congress does not have that authority.
No military service in exchange for citizenship, for anyone that entered service during the Biden administration. Too much of a security risk. Those personnel will be separated.
Congress must fund national security. If they refuse, the President is mandated to declare an emergency and take whatever steps are necessary to protect and preserve the Constitution and the nation.
We are in dangerous times. We are being invaded. This is a concerted effort to destroy the country. We must abandon the two parties and their programmed division of the nation and the People. If we fail to come together, we will be destroyed. And, we must be prepared for what the power brokers will do - they will bring death, destruction, and chaos to us here in the US in order to coerce us into bending to their will. We must not trade freedom for security. Together we are unstoppable as a nation.

As for costs and savings - my plan will save us about $50B annually, while securing the border, deporting everyone, providing increased economic opportunity in Mexico, and returning a lot of industry under our own control, rather than China's.

In my plan we spent $50B to build things like auto factories, pharma plants, etc at the border so we can employ people in Mexico that used to be here but self-deported and thus get control of essential medication production and similar items. I grossly overestimate the cost to continue border security and add $30B / yr to prop up the industry / economy at the border, and it still leaves us with a savings of $50B per year.

Seems a little high to me. Regardless, we shouldn’t be spending anything other than whatever it costs sending them back to their country of origin. Which we should recoup by whatever legal means available from those countries. Illegal is illegal. You gotta go back and I know that would suck for a lot of communities, damage many industries and the economy but we need to enforce our border.

It is much higher. DHS released a report a couple of months ago saying just the illegals who have come just since Biden has been in office cost the federal government just under 500 billion and they states another couple hundred billion.

I don't know, man. When that news came out, it was from some generic sounding entity like "immigration study office." Half a trillion seems ridiculous. A few billion? Sure.

$500B. Is that more or less than the cost of the wall Trump wanted?

Sounds like a high estimate but it's not like the real number is insignificant. I wouldn't be shocked if it was in the hundreds of billions but 500 seems on the high side.
