Yeesh, I figured California would be the first state to do this.

So if you figure you might be on the fence for getting a gun you purchase it out of state?

I thought if you fail a background check at a gun store...they yell "run".

They are going to get blasted if this law catches someone that was improperly denied in the NICS. State police aren't going to do anything more than the Feds will anyway.

I'm pro 2nd amendment, but if someone fails a background check, what is the issue? Those people shouldn't be in the possession of firearm.

The top reasons why people are rejected during a background check include-

Felon convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in jail
A fugitive from justice
Illegal/Unlawful Alien
A judge declare the person severe mental ill & the judge had to include the person mentally unfit to own a gun or involuntarily commit him or her to a mental institution.
Renounced U.S. Citizenship
Dishonorable Discharge

People fail background checks all the time when they can legally own a firearm. Mistakes happen, and now they will lead to arrests.

What in the actual frick ?? The bill is to only notify law enforcement agencies.

Notify =/= arrest.

I'm pretty pro second amendment but what's wrong with this- if some jihadi tries to buy a crate of AR derivatives and gets caught why shouldn't the cops be informed?

There is no penalty attached for failing.

It just informs the state that someone who isn't allowed to own a fire arm is attempting to purchase one.
That would give the state information on convicted felons, illegal aliens, fugitives who are trying to buy guns. I think we can all agree those people shouldn't have a fire arm.

That is a tool that can be used by law enforcement to remove those people from the community.

But this same governor is perfectly okay with his mayors and his municipal police chiefs keeping secret the immigration status of people in Washington jails.
