51-43 vote. Obama finally got his boy in there.

Also approved 15 other bills this afternoon already, and just approved another Obama executive nominee. Just starting a vote right now on ending the filibuster for approving another Obama selection as a new Assistant Secretary of State. Cranking them out like sausage right now.

What a pathetic statement about the state of American Medicine.
Appointment of nothing more than an incompetent stooge as US Surgeon General.
Good God Almighty!

And, yet, the GOP is seriously considering getting rid of the nuclear option.

Dumbasses.

As much as I hate Obama, Reid and the Dems, they know how to wield raw political power.

Mark Kirk of Illinois was the only Republican who voted for his confirmation.

Three Democrats - Joe Manchin, Heidi Heitkamp and Joe Donnelley - voted against confirmation. Six senators did not vote.

He know less of the practice of medicine than 80% of US physicians.
He know less of the practice of medicine than 100% of past Surgeons General.

I literally know nothing about the guy. What are the 'pros'?

What's the Administration's reason for nominating him?

Age 37, very little experience, and he led a group of doctors that campaigned for Obama in 2012 and defended Obamacare to the max.

He has also been outspoken on gun violence as a medical issue.

Even Harry Reid doubted for the longest time that he could get this nomination through.

There are literally hundreds of other medical professionals available that are more qualified.

The Surgeon General position should not be held by someone as political as this guy is.

The Brigham and Women’s Hospital physician did his undergrad at Harvard University, graduating magna cum laude in three years' time. He didn’t stop there. Murthy got a combined medical and business degree from Yale. He was also valedictorian of his high school.

Along with his sister, Murthy founded a nonprofit organization, VISIONS Worldwide Inc, devoted to AIDS education in India. Murthy also created a system, TrialNetworks, that improves clinical trials so new drugs can marketed sooner and more safely. He’s a co-founder and president of Doctors for America.

Man is young at age 37, but he is qualified.

Obama nominates a big business corporate stooge to the position and this version of the GOP throws a shite fit.

Go figure.

Hundreds?
That may well be the biggest understatement on the PTB this month.

Also believes gun control is a health issue.

May 4, 2009. Politico

"Sen. Max Baucus and the Center for American Progress Action Fund are announcing a new group on a conference call later this morning: Doctors for America, which is a reincarnation of Doctors for Obama, an arm of the Obama campaign that boasted more than 10,000 members."

Just another reward for support, as with so many ambassadorships and other political appointments.
