To be fair, using typical measurements of national wealth - GDP and PPP - Venezuala is not close to poorest in the Western Hemisphere. The metric used by the OP article looks more at wealth distribution than overall wealth

Sad for a country with oil to be worse off than a chunk of an island in the Caribbean.

Its important to note that this country has more oil than any other on the planet, yet people are starving.

Think of all the proud Chavez voters in 1998 who would have posted on their message board if they had one.

"We won, we won, we won!"

They voted for that shite originally.

I bet they're part of the 10% that's doing quite well for themselves. It work just the way the rich folks of Venezuela wanted it to work.

Please show an instance where massive collectivization, public ownership of production and manufacturing, and price controls have resulted in increased economic output.

Can you point me in the direction of the Latin American socialist leader who wasn't corrupt?

Let's talk about Latin America's bizarre distrust of private enterprise, I find it fascinating

What would it take for them to stage a civil war/uprising? With as malnourished and poor the citizenry is, I couldn't imagine they have the weapons or ability to fight back. Would a group like FARC support the rebels since they are close to a peace deal in Columbia?

I never said socialism "worked" like you put it but to use Venezuela and any other country with a corrupt arse government to point that it does not work just isn't a good example at least to me.

You know what that sounds like?
