“It makes it that much harder for people to make the decision to even purchase that one drink,” Baruffi said. “It’s not our job to be the conscience of a customer or monitor their drinking. If anything, I don’t see what the point of it is. Are (officials) trying to increase state revenue from DUIs? Now they know that they can watch any restaurant that serves alcohol and have a pretty good chance of any customer that leaves for a DUI. … It’s a law that I think reflects negatively on the state more than any of the other things that have gone on with the liquor laws here.”

I mean come on. This is a complete farce to pretend this kind of law is for public safety. Now a 120 lbs woman can be over the limit with one glass of wine.
Ridiculous legislation.

Those hard drinking Mormons are going to riot over this. I would like to see what would happen if this was proposed in Louisiana.

I agree.

It's all MADD driven. MADD, like many organizations of it's type, started out with noble intent. Now its just become the Gestapo.

It's Mormons who are doing this. I know many Republicans like them for political reasons, but this is what they are about.

So you think it's for revenue? I know the county sheriff and his posse that run their speed trap off the overhead bridges on the interstate 4 miles from the airport are only doing it for public safety, not to frick with the folks who are running late for their flights. Total revenue trap.

I'm thinking that because it's in Utah, it's probably based largely on some misguided moral principles.

Should have just made the penalties more severe.

Take an Uber.

I'm pretty neutral on this. Let's not pretend that alcohol doesn't hinder driving abilities.

Utah's liquor laws are absolutely draconian. We were in Moab earlier this year and were absolutely shocked when we went to dinner and ordered a drink first and we had to order food at the same time or no dice. The waiter went on to describe all this other crazy shite they had to do, none of which I can remember now, but it was pretty batshit.

That being said, of all things I don't mind being a little overboard about, its drinking and driving. Just don't go full Utah.

The people of Utah elected the government that passed this. You didn't.

And let's not pretend that one glass of wine impairs a person's ability to drive.

Honestly, I have no problem with it.

A BAC of 0.06% to 0.10% results in blunted feelings, lack of inhibition, extroversion, and sexual pleasure. An individual’s reflexes, reasoning, depth perception, and vision are affected as well.

I realize this will make me very unpopular on this board. I've just had too many friends die due to either driving impaired or from impaired drivers.

And lets not pretend that one glass of wine will put you over the limit, if you are an average person.

For a female weighing 125 LBS drinking 1 glass of win over a one hour period of time...her BA would be about 0.018
A female weighing 150 LBS drinking one glass would be 0.012
A male weighing 175 LBS drinking one glass over the course of an hour it would be 0.004
