The entire safety council program is a money grab. You’ll sit there all day to listen to OSHA tell you the rules, then listen to your company tell you the same rules then listen to (ex.) Exxon tell you the rules then listen to (ex.) Exxon in Baytown tell you the same rules as the last 3 classes you took...
And if you do turn-arounds you’re sitting through this 3-6 times a year.

My company pays for ours but I've always said, if I have a passport, why do I need a TWIC card? They both are the same background checks.

Felons can get TWIC cards. It’s kind of a pointless thing if the companies are doing background checks, anyway.
Also, If someone doesn’t have a TWIC card, they’re allowed access as long as they’re with someone who does. Which makes it even more pointless.
Ive escorted people who didn’t have them. They were just told that they had to be with me. Then they’d pick me up and leave the non TWIC people there to work while I went to a meeting. shite gets swept under the rug like everything else.

Even worse is when you go to different ports and the TWIC isn’t enough, you then have to get port ids at $25-$50 a pop. The price isn’t the problem it’s the additional bureaucratic BS every time you have to go to a different facility.

Your pre check number is on the back of the TWIC card. You just enter it when you book your flight or on your airline account.
