The NFL and the networks are killing the NFL.

Stay out of politics altogether or more people will tune them out.

I don't understand why they can't get that through their heads.

Entertain me or I won't watch.

Trump is tearing this country apart with vendettas, polarization, and side choosing on everything. This is how dictators force their will on populations. Honestly, this country needs a real statesman / woman from either party or preferably an independent like me to bring good sense, good will, and leadership to our nation.

Technically you are right. But the issue is about the NFL receiving tax dollars. That should and needs to stop.

I think he's done a lot. More than Obama did in his first 10 months.

Nothing technical about it. You're actually wrong and he's actually right. "Stadium Welfare" isn't a loophole.

I agree. They should have ever made the players trot out for the national anthem to begin with. Keep them in the locker room until it's time to play.

That's local, not federal.

no, they are protecting the actions of their greatest investment...the players. And, the players happen to be largely minorities
ironically I do think the NFL is apolitical to a fault. they said stickers for assassinated cops was political for Christ's sake. but this is bullshite. they take the players to the woodshed during CBAs & the biggest piece of leverage they exercise is knowing that the players spend paycheck to paycheck.

quote:

This is really an interesting dynamic
it is but it didn't have to be. the NFL can't let employees run the league and in fact what made it so successful to begin with was marketing the team and logo ahead of the individual players. manning goes down for a season, big deal...the machine churns on. they don't have a problem fining the shite out of the players for wearing beats by dre to a presser because bose is a sponsor. no personal messages on eye tape, shoes, etc. i'm not arguing in favor of these things, but it shows that they're totally full of shite.

quote:

rich minorities speak out against the super rich president (which it was more so than kneeling against police brutality). Socially conscience citizens join the banter while many Trump-supporting "NFL fans" ban the NFL from their homes. We can go on...
nfl fans don't depend on checks from the nfl, players do. they chose their employees over the fans despite years of telling the players to get fricked over anything and everything. fricking dumb

other way around. the nfl sounds pathetically desperate trying to do an about face but not all the players are going along with it and the sports media that largely does their bidding is criticizing them for it

There's no technically about it. When a municipality intentionally gives you a huge tax break, turning around and pretending it is a loophole is disingenuous at best.

But the issue is about the NFL receiving tax dollars.

Nearly every business receives tax breaks and deals. Amazon is siting a new complex somewhere in the US and all of the municipalities are falling over themselves to give them tax breaks. Why should the NFL be any different.

If you actually wanted to make a change to the laws to hurt the NFL (and other leagues) removing their antitrust exemption would be the place to do it. Especially with the unequal treatment between MLB and all other leagues.

The fabric of the nation is tearing to shreds right before my eyes.

Sounds like you've got the "vapors".

and the play in the XFL was good. it wasn't as good as the nfl, but right now the NFL has slop play. best athletes, skills and talent means nothing with the way things are structured right now

The play that we saw in the XFL can't be replicated. Too much has changed in our knowledge of the game.

Especially with the looming CTE crisis, a big hits league is never coming back.

Also with all of the best athletes locked in the NFL, OLine play in this new XFL would be atrocious.

which is why the NFL sees the concussion issue as beneficial to them. they have the money to fight or settle the lawsuit and move on

despite dotting every I and crossing every T an upstart league wouldn't be able to afford to defend themselves against bullshite lawsuits.

it's another barrier to entry. you absolutely can have an iron clad waiver and have people consent to such risks.

all the best players were in the NFL when the XFl started. the line play would be better for sure unless there was a talent gap in players across the line. the line play in the nfl sucks because they don't get the reps and practice. it's harder for backs to get to the 2nd level and qbs have less time to throw.

So, I'm confused now. Is it okay to use the IRS to punish political groups the President doesn't share the opinions of?

In the end he is doing exactly what the far left and progressives want. The NFL will fall then college will be next. Without the NFL college ball will change completely.
