We already KNEW the media lied constantly, before Trump ran.
He was the first candidate to say out loud what we already knew.

Everyone knew the media lies. Trump showed many people are fed up with it as much as I am. Something I'd have never known listening to the media.

Actually he knew all of his skeletons in the closet would come out running, and being POTUS, so he got ahead of it by constantly telling his minions that the MSM is "fake news". He did that just for a time like this with him blabbing to the Ruskies top secret Intel. He has a fragile ego and must constantly be told how great he is. Anything that paints him in a bad light or if someone disagrees with him it's "fake news".
