Trump set to roll back Obama policies on energy, environment

WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump is considering an oil billionaire and a North Dakota lawmaker for top posts as he moves to roll back President Barack Obama's environmental and energy policies and allow unfettered production of oil, coal and natural gas.

Trump has vowed to rescind "all job-destroying Obama executive actions" and pledges to sharply increase oil and gas drilling on federal lands while opening up offshore drilling in the Atlantic Ocean and other areas where it is blocked.

Topping Trump's to-do list is repealing the Clean Power Plan, Obama's signature effort to limit carbon pollution from coal-fired power plants. The plan — the linchpin of Obama's strategy to fight climate change — is currently on hold awaiting a court ruling.

2 days before the election, message came out saying Trump victory full speed ahead to resume drilling. Big oil is doing just that.

And people will be outraged.

India, China, South America and Russia each make exponentially more pollution than the USA but we have to pretend our regulations will make an impact thus losing jobs for lip service to mother nature.

In no uncertain terms: We could regulate our pollution to zero and it would not stop any world wide pollution-related crisis.

Would putting this into effect not put downward pressure on oil prices? They just jumped 3 percent in hopes that OPEC would cut output. I'm honestly asking.

yeah, but how the free market corrects itself is anyone's guess. By freeing up American companies, the saudis could very well reverse themselves and start cutting production themselves. Obama has been anti-American oil, not foreign oil, so his DOJ has put the halt on any M&A activity as well. Some of the oil companies are starting to rally since the Trump election. My hope is that oil would rise and stay in the $50-$60 dollar range.

I just fail to see how inundating the market with more oil will lead to prices higher than 50.

The Saudi's want to maximize production so Iran doesn't get any market share. That is what is driving their production goals. Until that situation is resolved I don't see how oil prices will rise.

Undoing all these regulations is a must but at the end of the day supply and demand is still the driver of drilling. It's a good start however.
