I think that would be huge. Gen. Mattis is extremely well versed in dealing with the ME from a military standpoint. He was over the push through Fallujah and was up in the front. He's a no nonsense guy who would stop turning the military into a social experiment, which would be awesome. He'd keep us in a state of readiness.

His subordinates loved him and he doesn't play politics.

What makes Mattis a great fit for this position is he's old school smart, no-nonsense tough SOB.

I'm not sure why leading the charge in Fallujah is a positive

It shows he wasn't sitting at a desk his entire career, shows he knows the enemy we're fighting, shows he knows the needs of the troops, and most of all, it shows he knows how to kick the ever-living shite out of people.

Because a lot of Americans and Iraqis could have died needlessly. He is a badass tactician and his leadership is very well respected

Have you seen Fallujah?

If his job was to destroy the enemy then fine, but that wasn't the job in Iraq.

Because he's not being considered for Secretary of State. We want a warrior SoD.

its an interesting pick, as matthis won't hodl back on roasting trump if he sees him acting in a manner he doesn't like.

matthis likes war too much for my taste, but I was pretty sure that we were going to get a much more aggressive FP based on trump's stances. while its a waste of money, these FP adventures are a sure fire way to fire up an opposition.

He ran both CentCom & Joint Forces Command so I'm going to go out on a limb & say yes.

Yes I've been to Fallujah personally, the insurgents were dug in there like no other place in that entire country. It is a fricking maze of a city with alleys And hiding places. His job in Fallujah was to absolutely destroy the enemy. What the frick else would his job have been? We were not yet at the rebuilding stage. Kill them, destroy their network, and leave an impression.....

So did you miss that part about him being in charge of CENTCOM?

Your ignorance shows when you boil his entire career down to one event. He has operational experience, strategic experience, experience at the service headquarters level, and experience with DoD requirements/acquisitions.

Please tell me how another congressman who served four 4 years in the 70s is more qualified.

Really

oh, i didn't see how he could crush isis without getting dragged into a lot of conflict.

crushing isis was such a core part of what he talked about FP wise. How you do that without getting dragged into a few conflicts is beyond my comprehension.

Plus, he doesn't really have an ideological compass.

And he doesn't seem to be surrounding himself with those who are against rampant intervention.

time will tell if I am correct or not.

What? I never did this. The OP chose to highlight Fallujah as the only accomplishment worthy of listing and I simply responded based on the absolute shithole Fallujah will be for the next 200+ years. I never said Mattis wasn't qualified or was a bad candidate, I said only that Fallujah is not something to brag about
