I worked hard with Bill Ford to keep the Lincoln plant in Kentucky. I owed it to the great State of Kentucky for their confidence in me!

Pardon my ignorance, but was this a plant with intentions of closing and moving to Mexico?

When did Ford ever say they were going to move Lincoln production? It was small car production that's been in the news, and they're still going to move it to Mexico to make room for other vehicles.

AFAICT, Donald is taking credit for stopping something that was not going to happen anyway, while it is certain the thing he condemned is still going ahead as planned.

If Bill Ford (who BTW is not the Ford CEO; that would be Mark Fields) can manipulate Donald this easily, imagine when he starts dealing with world leaders like Putin, with whom he claimed to have a great relationship despite later admitting he never met the man, only that he heard he had said "nice things about him", when what he actually said was, "He's flamboyant." I was going to end with a lol, but my real thought is, God help us all. We're going to need it.

Actually, they very much were planning on moving the MKC production to Mexico. The Louisville plant builds both the Escape and Lincoln MKC. They were only going to move the Lincoln to free up production for more Escapes to be built.

While it doesn't seem significant at first glance, it's a big win for the Union. Ford is not afraid of throttling production at its plants when dealer inventories get too high (unlike their competitors who generally answer with increased rebates). This means those guys are essentially laid off until production picks back up again. Diversifying what they're building means there's a lower chance of that happening.

Truth be told, I think this probably has more to do with the end of the two-Tier wage system from the last round of UAW negotiations than it does with Trump. The lower tier guys were much easier/cheaper to lay off; but a win is a win.

Ford is moving Focus production to Mexico because of costs. All manufacturers make smaller cars outside of the US because of costs. Toyota, Honda Mazda all of em make cheap cars and import them here.

But Ford is not reducing the workforce at that plant. They will be producing the Ranger pick up and the new Bronco there and will eventually have more jobs than are there currently with more security

You're not wrong but it's only true until the price of oil recovers. The truth is, as soon as we start seeing $80/barrel oil again, the demand for trucks and SUVs will dry up and with it, the jobs in the US. It's true that consumers have moved more towards crossovers and mid-size SUV's as their fuel economies float closer to that of the standard mid-size market but standard mid-size, while shrinking, is still the largest car segment in the US. This is what the union workers are worried about.

We need more of a simple narrative about TRUMP though!

Dude trucks, suburban, excursions etc...have been top sellers for as long as I can remember even at 100+ oil. I doubt they will dry up.

Those guys don't need to be too worried then. Hard to imagine oil going to $80 any time soon, at least for a durable amount of time.

All the union has to do is agree to adjust their wages in the plants that are effected by demand and government regulations. That way they would be totally aligned with their employees and have better job security. The unions gave up job security in return got control over their pensions and a hunk of cash

Not once TRUMP flips his meaty dick out on the Sauds and single-handedly defies cartel principles in a free market.
