YOUR President Trump will appoint 2-3 Supreme court justices in the next 2 years. There could be a couple more in the next few years.

Trump will appoint Anthony Scailia's replacement.

Judge Clarence Thomas has hinted that he wants to hang it up, he is close to 70 years old. There's 2.

Judge Anthony Kennedy is 81 years old and has hinted he wants a young Justice to take his place. There is 3.

Now here comes the good part:

Judge Ginsberg is 84 years old and is a cancer survivor(colon and pancreatic cancer). She is hanging on by a thread. If she wouldn't have been so hard-headed and retired when her party wanted her to, barry could have appointed a liberal Supreme Court Justice. But...
There is another Supreme Court Justice Trump could appoint.

Then there is Justice Stephen Bryer. He is getting close to 80 years old. If Trump is a two-termer, he could very well appoint Kennedy's replacement.

So there is potentially FIVE US Supreme Court Justices that President Trump(man I love hearing that) could appoint to the Supreme Court.

Sorry for getting off track of the original intent of the OP:

quote:

Donald Trump is set to inherit an uncommon number of vacancies in the federal courts in addition to the open Supreme Court seat, giving the president-elect a monumental opportunity to reshape the judiciary after taking office.

The estimated 103 judicial vacancies that President Obama is expected to hand over to Trump in the Jan. 20 transition of power is nearly double the 54 openings Obama found eight years ago following George W. Bush’s presidency.

obama has done a lot of damage in this country, especially on the lower courts, having appointed 329 judges.

But there is hope:
quote:

Russell Wheeler, an expert on judicial nominations at the Brookings Institution, said Trump has a great opportunity to change the partisan split in the federal courts. He predicted that by mid-2020, Republican appointees would hold about half of the 673 district judgeships, as opposed to the current 34 percent. And among the 179 circuit court judgeships, Democratic appointees now hold a slim majority, 51 percent, but that could fall to about 43 percent.

Barring some really shitty pick that not even republicans can stomach, Trump will get those easily confirmed as those require just 51 votes to confirm. The margin for error is very slim though as republicans only have 52 seats in the senate so the judicial nominee or Trump himself can't piss off more than 2 GOP senators.

SCOTUS Justices still require 60 votes so Trump is going to have to make some sweetheart deals to get at least 8 democrat votes.

Didn't Harry Reid also use the 'nuclear option' when it came to Supreme Court Justices? Keagan & Sotameyer were appointed when barry had a sizable majority in the US Senate. IDK

The mid-terms are coming up and the dems have a lot of seats to protect in deep red states. I think we are going see several dems see things our way.

No.

And it shouldn't be used for the Supreme Court anyway.

That is such a damning institution with appointments to it carrying generational consequences that you will see for the rest of your life. This isn't exactly a cabinet appointment here.

Appointments to the Supreme Court of the United States of America should carry bipartisan support and consensus.

We just had an election over a month ago. It's still two years out.

I agree but the left is gonna be out for blood though.

If they want to throw out the garcia nomination then the GOP needs to counter with Robert Bork. They started it.

True but if Trump does good & the dems act their normal selfs, its going to be another bloody mid-term election for them.

No, but if Trump does get the chance to select 5 it will cause the Dems a nuclear melt for generations to come.

It shouldn't have been used at all. Time to reap the whirlwind. If the Dems don't want the NO they can either aprove Trump's picks or make alliances across the aisle to stop them. Or go old school filibuster and hold the floor.

If Reid as majority leader could have forced a SCOTUS appointment via the nuclear option he would not have hesitated. This distinction between SCOTUS and lower courts is pure myth. The Republican minority went along with Barry's early picks and the Dem majority was long gone by the time Garcia was nominated.

Unfortunately, this is right. And while Trump's early actions have shown to be very promising, we still have alot to worry about with the GOPe leadership in Congress. They don't have a reputation for bold action so there's no guarantee that they will whip up even the 51+ votes when necessary. Trump will definitely need his bully pulpit.
