Leftists are melting over the expense, yet have yet to utter a peep over billions in somali thefts going to fund terrorist groups, among other things

President Donald Trump’s second term has been characterized by turmoil and vanity projects, and in the latter category, reports NOTUS, he’s now adding gold-coated statues. Specifically, the four massive bronze horses surrounding the Lincoln Memorial, which he’s in a hurry to have caked in 23.75-karat gold leaf. According to NOTUS, the president has contracted an “unusually thick layer of nearly pure gold — heavier and purer than even the ‘extra-thick’ gold… used to refinish the exterior of the Wyoming state capital dome seven years ago.”
The horses were last restored in the 1970s, but now, “The Trump administration wants them glittering with a fresh coat of gold in time for America’s 250th anniversary on July 4. So in mid-April, the National Park Service handed a $5 million contract to a gilding studio in Maryland to repair the statues and cover them with a thick layer of 23.75-karat gold leaf… The $5 million contract includes more work than just the gold leafing, although the gold itself is certain to be a significant part of the cost, with the price of gold essentially doubling over the last several years.”

Some people see this stuff and think it’s trivial but it’s not.
The trains need to run on time.
The fountains need to work.
It’s all part of the outward signs a nation isn’t in decline, has pride in its great works and cares about its appearance.

Right.
Millions of Americans - and scads of foreign tourists - see this every year, and to see it looking like hammered crap is not acceptable.

I approve.
Thank you OMB.. This is a much better use of our tax $.

The Trump administration has spent approximately \(\$11.8\text{ million}\) on the restoration and repair of the historic Columbus Memorial Fountain at Columbus Circle outside Union Station

President Donald Trump signed a $9 billion rescission bill that clawed back previously allocated congressional funding. The legislation included $1.1 billion cut from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (which funds NPR and member stations) and roughly $7.9 billion in foreign aid cuts, which led to the official closure and defunding of nearly all USAID programs. Trump is a bad mother fricker. He runs circles around these clowns in DC.

Most looney tunes TDS people will think this is all just a Trump vanity project along with the reflecting pool, the ballroom, the Lincoln Memorial horses, etc.
But in all reality, last time I went to DC a few years ago there were several areas of the national mall that were embarrassingly neglected and not up to standard.
This is America's 250th birthday, a HUGE deal. The bicentennial was a huge deal at the time and had tons of fanfare, nobody blinked an eye. The fact of the matter is that this will be the last major milestone birthday of the US most of us will get to celebrate. Very few of us will live to see the tricentennial, Trump and most members of Congress certainly won't.
There will be hundreds of thousands of visitors to DC - some foreign but mostly domestic - for the celebration. It should be in tip top shape for the citizens that paid for and ultimately run the country. Those are OUR landmarks and memorials, no true American should want to see them rot and fall apart. They celebrate and remember We The People

Work on reflecting pool moves forward.
It’s going to look great.
