President Donald Trump wasn't happy with the steady decrease in the US stockpile of nuclear weapons since the 1960s.
So, over the summer, he asked instead for a tenfold increase in the US's nuclear weapons, NBC News reported on Wednesday, adding that the request startled his advisers and was followed soon after with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson calling him a "moron."
Upon seeing a briefing that charted the huge decline in the number of US nuclear weapons, NBC News said, citing three anonymous officials, Trump asked the military officials present to expand the arsenal to nearly 10 times its current size.
Business Insider
What do you think happens in a meeting like this where Trump comes off with some outrageously stupid shite? I imagine people cutting their eyes at eachother and everyone shifting their weight with grave looks on their face. Maybe some facepalms.

Why would it ever be unreasonable for our President to want our United States to be number one in all categories of defense?

he just needs to use more MOABs if he wants to get more toys

Ask for 10 times, negotiate to 5 times. That's how you wheel and deal.

NBC News cites three unnamed “officials familiar with the incident” to report that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson referred to President Donald Trump as a “moron” at a July 20 Pentagon meeting. Tillerson is said to have been contemplating resignation at the time.
quote:
The July 20 meeting came a day after a meeting in the White House Situation Room on Afghanistan policy where Trump rattled his national security advisers by suggesting he might fire the top U.S. commander of the war and comparing the decision-making process on troop levels to the renovation of a high-end New York restaurant, according to participants in the meeting.
Hmmmmmmm.............seems fake news is fake news, they can't make up their minds on what he said or where he said it.

Or its a nudge to China and Russia that if you want to help Iran and NK's Nuke programs then we will bury you in building more Nukes of better accuracy and yield.

Status of World Nuclear Forces
And obviously with MOAB, we have other non- weapons that are powerful regardless.
But when we are talking numbers in the thousands, unless there are strategic deployment needs for deterrent purposes, what practical difference does a larger arsenal have, unless we're preparing for some extraterrestrial threat?

It could break agreements we have with Russia and others not to expand our arsenals (agreements that have been bipartisan for a long time). I don't know all the details or specifics of such treaties or if they're even technically treaties, but I know we have been involved with such agreements since the fall of the Soviets.
Of course, neither the U.S. or Russia are ever going to give up all the weapons, so I am not sure such treaties are anything but political theater.
