The twitter universe et al, is going crazy over Trump's comments about Douglass, MLK, Black History month, etc.
Myself, I think this is being blown way out of proportion. I tried to search the news to find the "real" story. But that's proving too difficult. The media bias is flooding the search results, repeating the same narrative.
My thoughts on this : ( please correct any "alternative facts" ; I'm piecing this together from bits I've picked up, and there's conjecture also. )

Trump's purpose that day was meeting with black leaders, etc. I heard it referred to as a"listening session". My understanding is that it WAS NOT a breakfast honoring Black History Month. The people in attendance there were there to discuss issues with the president; not to hear a speech about Black History Month.
Trump's been meeting with groups all week long; he was likely ready to get the meeting rolling, to get things done and wasn't about to give a long talk about Black History. YES, his comments were awkward; YES, he talked a lot about himself; YES, I like semi-colons. But that's Trump. The bottom line is that after the comments, he had discussions with these leaders. Pastor Darrel Scott reiterated that black gang leaders are wanting to meet with Trump.
No one in the media wants to discuss anything beyond Trump's comments. Why isn't anyone talking about what this listening session accomplished. Isn't it pathetic what everyone is focusing on? , as far as I can tell, this was not a "Black History Month" breakfast, was it?
If it was, I feel that Trump would have been more prepared, with an actual speech, with a TelePrompTer. He appeared to be talking almost off the cuff, occasionally glancing at some notes. I can even understand the comment about the MLK bust, as Trump simply may have wanted to make it clear that there was no iota of truth to that story. His comment about Freddy D. being "recognized more" may have come from the fact that a Frederick Douglass Exhibit had recently opened at the new Black History museum.
I just think it's ridiculous what the left is focusing on. DJT is concerned with MAGA , while the stupid left is all bent out of shape regarding his comments which were supposedly so disrespectful, ignorant, etc. HE WASNT THERE TO GIVE A SPEECH, HE WAS THERE TO MEET WITH THIS GROUP AND FIND SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS. We've had 8 years of a polished, erudite president. Look where that has taken us.

Again, please let me know what I have wrong. Maybe this was supposed to be a big speech on Black History. If so, Trump wasn't prepared for that.

It was about black history month. Here is entire video of his "little breakfast and get together" for black history month. Why else would he have all those black Peeps around him? The vid should answer any questions, including those about his fumbling and bumbling on Frederick Douglass

Maybe cuz he actually wants to help the black community instead of making them into better slaves like Obama

When's White history month? If the blacks can get everything given to them just because they're black, we need to have White history month and start getting free shite as well.

(I'm being sarcastic about the free shite. I'd never stoop to that level of scum. But the White history month, I'm all for it. The world needs to know that without Whitey, it wouldn't have amounted to anything more than a Detroit, ferguson, or Baltimore, etc.)

I'm just saddened and sickened about Frederick Douglass' silence surrounding the Bowling Green Massacre. When is he going to speak up????

Hell, what about all the other races? You know, those who actually contributed something like the East and South Asians? Blacks have contributed a lot of whining and rudeness compared to them.

The White man knew what he was doing when we allowed them to have their little time in the spotlight during the shortest and somewhat coldest month.

I don't believe it. Nowhere was this described as such, other than Trumps's reference. He mentions he wants to make a few comments about Black History Month. But it wasn't coordinated as such. He's sitting at a conference table, with maybe 20 people around the table. Who gives a speech from a conference table, no TelePrompTer, no podium. This was no prepared speech! It was described as a listening session with leaders from black community, businesses, etc.
It doesn't add up. No one makes a speech sitting around a conference table with 20 people.

Well this is Black History Month, so this is our little breakfast, our little get-together. Hi Lynn, how are you? Just a few notes. During this month, we honor the tremendous history of African-Americans throughout our country. Throughout the world, if you really think about it, right? And their story is one of unimaginable sacrifice, hard work, and faith in America....
