Is there a valid reason why the streets, highways, interstate leading to most visitor and tourist areas of Baton Rouge can't be kept clean? There seems to always be huge weeds, trash, beer bottles, pieces of cars/tires all over the place and it sits for months. Sometimes even years. If you drive the 110 loop from the airport to downtown you will see tons a trash, tall weeds and debris along the shoulders of the road and scattered all along the off ramps. It just makes BR look really bad. Can't the mayor at least address this? Parish prisoners need something to do don't they? Pay back the society they committed crimes against?

It's not just in BR. Coming over the Pearl River bridge is an eye opener. We are just trashy people in Louisiana.

That's all of Louisiana

And it's a result of our low IQ population. I was behind a family the other day that threw out their whole McDonalds meal in the middle of Perkins.

its people that are dumping cups and trash as soon as they are done with it and people throwing things in the back of their pickups and it flies out while driving. Mix of stupid and I see it all the time

I saw someone empty their car of fast food bags and cups in a gas station parking lot. The trash can was 15 feet away.

It's not just Louisiana. People are starting to suck.

It’s a symptom of a broader mindset in Louisiana that there are two worlds and they don’t care what happens in the “other” one:

“I don’t care that public schools are bad. My kid goes to Newman.”

“I don’t care that crime is bad. Most of it is on the other side of town.”

“Litter on the interstate? Pfft, have you seen how nice MY neighborhood is?”

“Sure, Baton Rouge may be a shithole, but wait until we form St. George.”

There is definitely a lack of pride in this state.

Honestly, a lot of this kind of stuff can be remedied at the grassroots level. People need to start, as you said, having pride. And not just about their neighborhood, but the city at large. Trashy behavior needs to be shamed by the rest of the citizenry.

TBH, people lack pride on a personal level let alone for their city or state. Look at how many grossly fat people are walking around this state, from all classes. It's always jarring to go to a place like Boston for a week and see so many people running, biking, rowing, etc.

I lived in Louisiana most of my life, with occasional short visits out of state. Louisiana was always an unkept state. Mississippi was better. Now I live in TX, thank God.

LE could use the money; ramp up the Fines and enforce payment...and it'll go away. Whatever we tolerate we get more of.

You can blame the idiots for trashing the city/parish; however, it's not the idiots that allow weeds and grass to grow unabated, mangled road signs to remain, or trash to pile up.

The city-parish does little to dress up our roads and thoroughfares. They seldom cut grass, kill weeds, pick up trash, stripe roads or fix and replace damage signs.

It's a bad situation all the way around.

I've never seen a place with so many tire blow outs than BR metro. Pieces of tire all over.

Pack up your shite and leave.

Did that 20 years ago and never regretted it once.
