Traffic at a crossing point on the Texas-Mexico border has come to a standstill due to protests by Mexican truckers over Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R) new rule that allows state troopers to inspect commercial vehicles crossing into the U.S.

Both sides of the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge, the most trafficked trade crossing in the Rio Grande Valley, were blocked by the truckers Tuesday for the sixth day in a row, according to multiple news sources.

The U.S. side of the bridge is closed without reopening in sight, The Wall Street Journal reported, as 500 truckers block border entrances from the U.S. to Mexico.

Abbott ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety Wednesday to tighten inspections of trucks crossing the border in an effort to reduce illegal immigration and drug trafficking.

The state inspections are in addition to federal inspections and have not regularly been ordered.

Well, the jig is just about up for that shitty produce from Mexico for this year anyway. Costa Rica and Panama don't even want it.

Again Hot Wheels Abbott reacting after the fact. Drugs, human trafficking, illegal immigration have been at an all time high since Brandon became president and now Abbott comes up with all these new plans to save his state.

Why would you need Ted Cruz to talk to them?

Abbott should claim that due to Biden’s cratering of the oil and gas industry, he is having to make budget cuts, which means even fewer people to inspect the trucks.

So human trafficing at that border crossing has been halted (at least those smuggled by truck)..

Sounds like a win to me.

Well we learned two things:

The ones protesting should DEFINITELY have their trucks searched because they are pissed they might get caught.

Second, obviously the feds were doing a shatty job that the smugglers were very happy with.

The GOP governors put the fed GOP House and Senate members to shame. They work for their states while the feds run their mouths on various Fox "show circuit".

Not even a week into the inspections, the Mexican government said that Abbott’s order was causing “serious damage” to trade, and that cross-border traffic had plummeted to a third of normal levels. On Wednesday, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki called Abbott’s order “unnecessary and redundant.”

The shutdowns and slowdowns have set off some of widest backlash to date of Abbott’s multibillion-dollar border operation, which the two-term governor has made the cornerstone of his administration. Texas already has thousands of state troopers and National Guard members on the border and has converted prisons into jails for migrants arrested on state trespassing charges.

The additional inspections are conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety, which said that as of Monday, it had inspected more than 3,400 commercial vehicles and placed more than 800 “out of service” for violations that included defective brakes, tires and lighting. It made no mention of whether the truck inspections had turned up migrants or drugs.
