No connection at all, which is why I did not include it.
In order to retain their state unemployment benefits, recipients have to attest that they are actively looking for work.
This has nothing to do with the people polled by the Census Bureau to determine the U-3 unemployment rate (the ones you are referring to). Those people are telling federal Census Bureau workers they are not looking for work.
Not likely many people are giving up their unemployment checks voluntarily by volunteering to state workers that they have stopped looking for a job.
