Thanks for posting what really matters, alot of poot butts here get bogged down on their ideology.

Jim, it is time and the populace in Iran is more western (along with Jordan) than any other ME country. The concern I have is the power sharing at the top, they can elect a good secular president but they cant seem to shake off the clerical counterweight.

What I noticed in Iraq and Afghanistan was brain drain. All the doctors, lawyers, accountants, elite business people, scientist, professors etc hauled arse and left a vacuum. That didnt happen in Iran, in fact most of the educated class that have fled their home countries in the ME migrated to Iran.

Bingo! It's amazing that so many Americans don't make that distinction. When I was a young lawyer I was involved in some pretty intense negotiations with Iranians over some U.S. company's assets that had been confiscated after the revolution. The Revolutionary Counsel guys were assholes, but the others were pretty cool, actually.

The best ones are people who say I hope we are never on the opposing side of Israel in a war.

Why? Have they dropped their death to Israel stance? I don't think they need us anyway they already have Putin for support.

We seem to not have a problem with Saudi Arabia. If our qualification is "quit supporting terrorists," we hold very loosely to them.

to try and morally equate all of these dictatorial regimes, countries with little to no human rights, countries and governments, which have declared themselves our sworn enemies and dedicated themselves to the destruction of our way of life, fomented terrorism worldwide, and then not to acknowledge these facts is ridiculous.

How does anyone get so confused?

I get what you are saying but every major nation does this. No one has clean hands.

The major financer of Islamic extremism is the Saudi's. Even the ideology they pull their marching orders from come from the kingdom. But it is intriguing that Iran would be willing to help Arabs in a proxy war.

The one thing all of the Mid-East, Russian, India, Saudi leaders know and realize what we can't grasp is that genocide is the only thing that works. Why do you think Iraq, lybia, and Egypt where pretty much stable for all of those years? Because there were dictators in control willing to frick anyone up who opposed them.

Let it go and let the Pitbull in Israel off the leash.

What kind of list is this? Do people actually think this way?

And let's not forgot Pakistan. The issue isn't whether a country supports terrorists, it whether they support anti-American terrorists. Saudi Arabia and Pakistan do. Iran doesn't. Also, the U.S. has upported its fair share of terrorist over the year, so we're like the pot calling the kettle black on this issue.

This was a key campaign promise of the Obama admin. Obama basically said he would meet/negotiate with any nation regardless of the status of our relations. The U.S. has been negotiating with Iran on nuclear non-proliferation for many years now to no avail. So I can only assume by "normalize" you mean give up any hope of preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons and I have no doubt that is exactly what they are trying to do.

The only one I can think of is Israel. We've never gotten even for the USS Liberty. When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, we didn't just get even, we got ahead by nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and that's the norm for the U.S. It's the American way.

The point is, hate who you are instructed to hate and when the Fascists who control this country get control of that one, you can then call them allies.

We normalized relations with Germany after we firebombed Berlin and Dresden. I only took exception to a post who asked: "Why is it we are the ones who always have to take the high ground and play by the rules??" My point is that the U.S. has never been a turn-the-other-cheek, take-the-moral-highground kind of nation.
