The theory is sound, but in the global economy, it doesn't necessarily benefit the middle/working class in the US anymore. It's done a fine job of creating middle classes in India and China. If you wanted supply side Econ to work for working class Americans, it would have to be paired with semi-protectionist trade policy or tax policy that greatly benefits investment in domestic business that creates jobs and greatly punishes foreign investment.
