Republicans in Congress followed Obama's lead and wanted Trump to use the presidency as a bully pulpit towards and for americans who hold hateful beliefs whether they be KKK, SJW, Alt-right, or BLM. You know just like Obama did when he fanned the flames in ferguson and subtly defended/apologized for the black nationalist dallas shooter.

Well, they got their wish and now they're going to have to deal with a shitstorm of lefty hate after the President called them out publicly as the vile shite stains they are.

Hope they're happy with that.

By they way, Trump himself did not refer to BLM, Antifa, or SJWs by name any time at all during the campaign even though he had every incentive to do so. He didn't even refer to republicans and democrats as liberal or conservative.

This past week was the first time in memory where Trumps specifically singled out Americans by an ideological box and you could tell he was pretty uncomfortable doing that.

Put him a tough spot? If that was a tough spot, I can't imagine what isn't a tough spot.

I mean he uses his bully pulpit to call out his own AG, TV pundits, and anybody who he believes personally wrongs him. How dare they expect him to use it against hateful and violent groups.

What?

Yes. Well a person who has shown to have no ideological basis over the years, and who happily singles out people who he believes had wronged him, I guess singling out an ideology would be atypical.

Look, I get it. This board is 90% far right southerners and fervent Trump supporters but y'all are burying your heads in the sand if you think these public shoving matches are going to help him push his agenda. He'll be very fortunate to accomplish much of anything.

a) Trump needs friends in congress to get his agenda through.

b) this reeks of narcissist's prayer.

This contrarian is only getting one response and that's it.

He's a guy that has no problem fighting back against people who attack him or disrupt his agenda's progress. I have no problem with that principle, I just have a problem with content of the message and the execution if he fricks it up.

Ben Shapiro summed up how Obama subtly defended and apologized for the dallas shooter.

Do you not remember how he fanned the flames with ferguson and Trayvon?

Actually not putting people in a neatly defined ideological box is what enabled him to do well in the rust belt and he was able to frame the election as the people against an out of touch political class that doesn't care about normal, every day americans.

Ted Cruz would've done the opposite and he would've lost the rust belt by rather comfortable margins.

And that's fine, but a leader and someone with some principles other than self-promotion, would attack those who do morally reprehensible things and have morally reprehensible beliefs.

Right now he's acting like a Obama, just a bit meaner.

Sure, but that's a big jump to "defending" the Dallas shooter. Even Shapiro's article doesn't go that far in the criticism; it's just criticizing him for interjecting his agenda.

I didn't say it wasn't effective, especially during the campaign. But just like Obama, the ability to campaign doesn't translate to the ability to be an effective leader. We aren't talking about "what won him the election" here.

Trump needs friends in Congress, but Republicans also need a successful Presidency. If he fails, they also get voted out of office.

And it's on that basis you should be asking yourself why the frick are they not sending him legislative victories to sign into law but only more interested in undermining if not outright attacking him.

Trump is doing everything he can to work with them since their agendas have a lot in common.

I truly hate the GOP for being as spineless and and self preservationist as it is.

they both need each other! And that is the point. Trump certainly doesn't act like he needs them. Congressional Rs did act like they needed trump but now they seem to be distancing themselves.

September budget battle will be interesting to watch.

That's after they failed to deliver to their voters what they promised. I wouldn't want to hitch my wagon to people who renege 7 year long promises.

And that will backfire.

There's a reason why congress has a lower approval rating than the President.

Jeff Flake's approval rating in Arizona sank even lower after he started shite talking Trump and Mo Brooks in Bama made sure he had no shot at the senate runoff after he meddled in the Trump-Sessions dispute.

And those are just two small examples. Republicans hate grandstanders that continually undermine a republican president.

Politico got the transcript wrong.

I am sure it was an honest mistake.

Very classic case of giving a man enough rope and letting him hang himself.
