Theory: Is Bannon at work here?

Background: Bannon is operating the war room to fight back the Special Prosecutor. Bannon is very formidable in the area as a political operative with many resources. Mueller is seasoned vet but has his hands tied as far as publicly saying too much.
1. Rosenstein statement yesterday was bizarre because it says "to not believe unconfirmed sources".
2. Bannon & Trump would have 2 goals by leaking Trump was under investigation for firing Comey.
a. They want to find out if Trump is really under investigation
b. The leak discredits probe if people think Mueller is "deep state" leaking to media
3. This is why we see Rosenstein coming out on Mueller behalf to protect integrity of probe
4. Problem is Trumps made this an issue bringing up Clinton and Rosenstein for suggesting he fire Comey in the first place
5. Bannon has upper hand now but Mueller has final say. The idea is to discredit the final findings especially if Trump is singled out in report

Bannon is the MVP of the Trump administration (aside from the God Emperor himself) despite the strategic blunder of the Travel Ban rollout.
ETA: I'm not against the travel ban, just the way that it was rolled out.

It's hard to say. Trump is too incompetent to get anything meaningful legislation passed during his tenure but I am sure Bannon is in his ear.

Both sides have been upping the ante since Bill and Monica. GW was hated by the left more than Slick Willie the right. Obama was hated more by the right than GW was the left, and now the left has raised the vitriol level yet again. It will be interesting to see it the trend continues. Have to figure we're reaching the boiling point though.

The point is it below Bannon to leak that Trump is target by Mueller? Absolutely not and what purpose would it serve.
Why is Rosthstein putting out a fricking press release about "not believing unverified sources"? Is it because the leak never came from Special Prosecutors office? Why would they leak something like that?
