re: The Rich Are Living Longer and Taking More From Taxpayers

One thing the W Bush did right was working to make this possible, at least for a portion of your SS taxes
Of course, "pro choice" retards had a meltdown & were unfortunately able to stop it
The problem with this whole thing was pretty simple. In order to make sure benefits continue for the people diverting into the old system and not the new system, you have to keep funding the old system. They were looking at a trillion dollar obligation to do that and Republicans didn't want to piss off old people by raising retirement ages, cutting benefits, and rich people didn't want their taxes going up. Like with the proposed cap elimination on the left. So you had Bush promising no net change but the numbers didn't add up. If you are putting less money into the SS system, something has to give somewhere.

Ok, I actually agree with your solution, that, or something like it will have to be done
Most people don't realize that the retirement age was set pretty lose to the "average lifespan" at its inception
Raising the retirement age HAS to happen
Means testing is highly likely to happen first, is that "fair"
Hell no - raising the retirement age is plenty fair though...
But both are probably needed and will happen at some point

I mean working within the same SS framework, you have a few options, and probably need some combination to maximize the solvency period without resorting to outside investments:
- You raise the retirement age(good luck convincing the most reliable demographic of that any time soon)
- You eliminate the cap on income subject to SS taxation(good luck getting rich donors or the party of the Norquist promise behind that one),
- You cut benefits(see the problem to raising the retirement age).
Its one of those issues that when the crisis comes, congress will finally find the will to deal with it....Or they won't, and America deals with the fallout.
........WILDCARD OPTION: You start drafting old people into the Hunger Games at 65.

Based on the latest year of data, the Society of Actuaries last fall dropped its life expectancy estimates for 65-year-olds in the U.S. by six months. The health of middle-aged non-Hispanic white Americans is deteriorating fastest.
One word: ObamaCare

The result of these trends, according to a new study, is a widening gap between wealthier and poorer Americans. The richest people in the U.S. aren’t just getting several years of extra life, they’re also reaping a financial reward for their longevity – courtesy of the U.S. taxpayer.
Is this article advocating killing people who make $75,000 a year or more, to make things even?

it's so hilarious that in some indirect way, producers are finally getting their fair share...and this is a major problem
just another friendly reminder that Social Security is nothing more than a welfare program and what you've "paid in" is completely irrelevant when discussing the program

The false narrative here is the idea that the rich are taking from taxpayers.
Why is it a false narrative?
Because the Rich are the ones who are paying the taxes.
85% of ALL Federal Income taxes are paid by the Upper 15% of wage earners.
Those who make 250k and above pay 51% of all income taxes paid
The "evil" 1%ers pay over 45% of all taxes paid.
This is the true fact of our tax code.
When the media and the left(same demographic) tells you that taxpayers are bailing out the rich, blah blah blah... Like when the wall street bailouts happened at "taxpayer expence"
What they didn't tell you is the evil 1%ers just bailed out themselves.
And those figures just refer to income tax. The rich also pay the most sales tax, property tax, and business taxes.
The bottom 20% of earners pay zero tax and actually get more money back when they file than they put in to the system.
The bottom 45% of wage earners also pay zero tax after they file.

That was one of the worst-written, terrible absurd articles I've ever read, and I grew up with The Morning Advocate!

Sounds like people who pay more taxes live longer
Seems fair
Should be a goal to make it so

stop being a dick. i was agreeing with you AND SFP. SFP was being sarcastic, and you appeared to take him literally. I can't help that either, I'm afraid.
