It's Republicans who want to make it harder to vote by instilling voter ID laws. Why create another step to voting unless you want to discourage voting.
Ids are a racial issue?

"Reagan also implied
another stereotype, this one about whites: they were the workers, the tax payers, the persons playing by the rules and struggling to make ends meet while brazen minorities partied with their hard-earned tax dollars."

I don't know but social welfare programs are awarded based on demonstrated need not race. You get food stamps, welfare, and SSDI based on demonstrated need by being poor or disabled. There is no racial requirement to get on welfare. It's based on how much money you have NOT on your race or ethnicity.

I guess I better sign up for the white privilege conference. I've been using code words like hockey and moronic, deadbeat leeches.

The selective quotation of Atwater's comments have been repeatedly used by outlets like Salon to paint Reagan as racist, and likewise has been repeatedly exposed by those who listen to or read the entire context of Atwater's interview, namely...
Atwater's whole point was that race wasn't an issue in order for Reagan to win the South.
quote:
So what you have is two things happening that totally washed away the Southern strategy, the Harry Dent type Southern strategy, and that is, that whole strategy was based, although it was more sophisticated than a Bilbo or a George Wallace, it was nevertheless based on coded racism. The whole thing, busing, we want a Supreme Court judge that won’t have busing, anything you look at can be traced back to the issue [of race], in the old southern strategy. It was not done in a blatantly discriminatory way.
But Reagan did not have to do a southern strategy for two reasons. Number one, race was was not a dominant issue. And number two, the mainstream issues in this campaign had been, quote, southern issues since way back in the sixties. So Reagan goes out and campaigns on the issues of economics and of national defense. The whole campaign was devoid of any kind of racism, any kind of reference. And I’ll tell you another thing you all need to think about, that even surprised me, is the lack of interest, really, the lack of knowledge right now in the South among white voters about the Voting Rights Act.
Atwater's whole point was that race wasn't an issue in order for Reagan to win the South.

How many millions of people did YOUR hero, Josef Stalin, have murdered compared to Regan?

I have never said Stalin was my hero. Reagan killed tens of thousands in Latin America. He supported and gave arms and money to dictators who were killing people in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.
There's a lot of blood on the hands of Reagan. Of course Stalin has more but there's still a lot of blood on Reagan's hands.

"By 1968 you can’t say “n—” — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states’ rights and all that stuff. You’re getting so abstract now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.
Ok, now go pull the entire transcript and educate yourself.
I've come across the quote (taken out of context) a bunch by dumbasses who never do any independent research. It is entertaining to watch them learn that the quote is talking about how Democrats won the south prior to 1980.
