I agree with some of what you're saying and I disagree with other parts. That's not me being a stubborn prick, it's just life. There are no absolutes, especially with regards to politics. I agree with some liberal policies and I agree with some conservative policies as well.
Every issue deserves to be examined on its own, not labeled as a Democrat/liberal idea or a Republican/conservative idea. If you are looking for the perfect candidate who is right 100% of the time and who you agree with on every single issue, you are never going to find them. You vote for the person who you agree with the most, whether that's 95% or 15%. Your choices may not be worth a damn or you may find a candidate who you think is right on just about everything. That's just how it is.

I've always live by the rule, " if you agree with someone 100% of the time, then someone is lying "

I despise Washington (and Austin). I can't stand what our country has become and to me (JMO) it's 100% politics doing. Politics is a job. It's a sales and con job. It's lucrative on a level I surely can't comprehend. At our country's base, we're just a collection of different people. Color, creed, sex, morals, all that bullshite. Each and every part of who we are is a money maker. Fear makes money. Safety makes money. Law and lawlessness makes money. Religion or a lack of it makes money. Addiction makes money. Who we screw, M of F makes money. Disease, it's cause and it's cure makes money. The poeple running the show at the top of all those things makes inconceivable amounts of money...
How? Division but also pandering. Dems coddle each molecule of their base to make them happy, make you mad and make them money. R's take the remaining population, convince you they're on your side and will fight the good fight. Send me money...
I'm sick and tired of seeing everyone let Washington get away with it. Some will tell me that's why I should adore Teump. But I don't, won't and have my reasons not to trust him as far as I could throw him either.

I agree with this. We make politicians very rich. Democrat and Republicans take care of each other. I've never heard of a politician leaving D.C. broke. It's disgusting. They will sell this country to make a buck

quote:Good, thoughtful post Sao. I'd only take issue with the notion that politicians and governments are responsible for our divisions. Discrimination, suspicion, envy, and alienation of the "other" is as human as religion and as American as apple lie. Good leaders seek to minimize these seams. Ours exacerbate them. But they don't create them. Politicians are a convenient scapegoat for much deeper issues in American society. Half the guys on this board, the racists on 4chan, the idiots on twitter and Facebook, etc are worse people than any fricking politician I've ever had to deal with.
I'll tell you what I'm not.
I'm not a guy who gloms on to the only alternative based upon simply despising the other alternative. The reason I asked you why you're Republican is to get you to admit it's because you're against Democrats. You despise the people, it's policy, it's goals and it's existence. In short, you're not for anyone, you're against everyone. That's quite a platform and an exhausting one I might add.
You see, IMO, we are where we are because by design, they've devided us. You and me. They have to divide for the system to work. No one likes to be told what to do, what to think and no one likes to lose. So we pick sides, fight on the people's level and every so often, vote. Do we vote out of sense or logic or education? Nope. We vote to win so the others lose. We vote for the very tip top of the bullshite and always ignore the fact the steaming pile that matters is always left unchanged.
You see, we can change who the POTUS is all we want but nothing changes. The nucleus, from the State level on up, knows this. Washington loves this. You and I can't fight on the senate floor so we fight here. On the People's level. If we stopped, they're fricked.

Yes, you're right. But politics and democracy are one and the same. If you truly hate politics, then you're just waiting for Caesar.

It would be different if they reported the news, instead of programming people.
Legitimately only .0001% of .0001% of normal people are affected by border closings, but the media says 47% of Americans should be thrust into a frenzy...
Literally in one coffee party thread on FB, they called Steve Bannon a commie, KGB klansman and Nazi...which is it...
In another in the same sentence a woman called Trump a Nazi for decentralizin government...the populace has no idea...none, they regurgitate what media tells them.

Why is it so many men here can tell you what they despise about Liberal policy/people but struggle to articulate what being a Republican means to them individually?

You would think by this point the lefties here would get that, but they don't.
Every new lefty alter is this way too.
Cracks me up. Yet they make the childish replies earlier like "lockstep lockstep lockstep".
