It's a convenient and highly dishonest little trick they employ.

Look no further than Dunham's and Apatow's response to the criticism of Dunham's unnecessary and frequent nudity in Girls. They take that criticism, and uses it to generalize it about the misogyny in society. It can't be that it was unnecessary, especially since many don't find her attractive-which can't really be helped. It must be some broader representation of society's backwards thinking.

But then again, whoever makes these arguments cares little for logic and useful discussions, so they are better off ignored so they don't get the attention they are desperately seeking.

But those people shouldn't be lumped in with everybody else, but that's what people do. They generalize the worst of some subset to the larger population so they can feel morally superior.
