The idea that people can "make themselves more valuable" is incredibly naïve.

Many people are maxed out on their skill set. Some people simply can, at best, be maids and janitors.

A minimjum wage guarantees we do not become like Eastern Europe where common workers don't earn crag and their bosses party in France and burn 500 Euro banknotes in front of these unfortunate workers while laughing out loud.

So, if $15/hour is good, wouldn't $50/hour be great?

50.00 is great. I'll take the job.

I get the argument the guy is making. Your comeback on the minimum wage proposal is based on the economic model of when the US was a production economy fueled by manufacturing. However, since the US economy is now mostly (70%) driven as a consumer economy, we have to get wages up in order to keep the consumerist activity up.

If people don't have enough money to afford all of the goods for sale that we import into the country, then the retail sector whether it be storefront or Amazon will soon suffer.

The guy that wrote that piece is a big Bernie guy and something of a socialist. That being said, sooner or later there has to be impetus to raise the overall wages in this country, merely being able to keep more of the 7.25/hour you make...or whatever hourly wage below about 22/hr is not going to cut it much longer. People are going to demand that if you give the corporations and wealthy tax cuts, then maybe the corporations and the wealthy should start paying more for the people who deliver the services that they desire

Don't be surprised if the nationalist pro Trumpists start asking for more money via the minimum wage.

how much is a mcdonalds cheeseburger in their model?

The idea is that if you pay the worker more, he has more money to spend and even if the price rises , it will be more than offset by the availability of consumers who can afford it, therefore priming the demand.....it's classic Keynesian.

Why do we need a MW? Do you think Burger King would offer 1 buck an hour? What's wrong with trying the free market?

You really don’t need to discuss anything more with a person once they admit to favoring a $15 minimum wage. At that point they’ve proven that they are a complete dumbass.

Then $200 per hour minimum wage would solve all our debt problems!

Actually it really might! Of course it would wreck our economy and no one would lend us money again and all our money would be worthless.

No,but in some locales they may try to go as low as possible especially if there is a perceived excess in the supply of labor.

But we don't have a free market and have not really had one for about 100 years or so. Actually, name me a large modern industrialized nation that has a true free market?

You never answered my assertion that the Trump base being economic nationalists may become the biggest proponents of an increase in the minimum wage

I am sure, if you like eating out, you wouldn't mind paying 20 bucks for a cheese burger at McDonalds with nothing on it.

As long as we are putting our economic ignorance on display...how about we all work for free and in return all goods and services are free. No income and therefore no taxes.

Any truth can be exposed once it's taken to the extreme. Cutting taxes to zero is alot better than raising the minimum wage to $100/hr.

I wish both sides would stop the talking points campaign and trolling the other side on this issue and simply have a discussion. I want to know their response to the point that it would kill jobs and that prices would simply grow to offset the increased wages. Liberals will never address the negatives in talking points

If I was earning $15 per hour and all of a sudden the grunts under me got their pay doubled, I would expect mine to double as well. I would expect to earn way more than minimum wage.

Zach owns this.

Never gives up.

Same.
I prefer reducing expenditures across the board even war.
Less every year.
Pay down debt. Debt service staggering.

Problem is liberals dont understand basic economics.

Who actually gets paid minimum wage? Even 10 years ago when I was in college I was making at least $9 or $10 an hour at a deli.
