Jonathan Turley, Shapiro Professor of Public Interest Law at George Washington University, testified that the expansion of executive power is happening so fast that America is at a “constitutional tipping point.”
“My view [is] that the president, has in fact, exceeded his authority in a way that is creating a destabilizing influence in a three branch system,” he said. “I want to emphasize, of course, this problem didn’t begin with President Obama, I was critical of his predecessor President Bush as well, but the rate at which executive power has been concentrated in our system is accelerating. And frankly, I am very alarmed by the implications of that aggregation of power.”

“What also alarms me, however, is that the two other branches appear not just simply passive, but inert in the face of this concentration of authority,” Turley said.

All the GOP wants is to get their guy in next time so he can run the country by executive order.

This problem began with Woodrow Wilson. It's been a century..time to put a stop to it and start a new era of bringing America back

the painful fact is that Barack Obama is the president that Nixon always wanted to be.

quote:

Obama has not only openly asserted powers that were the grounds for Nixon's impeachment, but he has made many love him for it. More than any figure in history, Obama has been a disaster for the U.S. civil liberties movement. By coming out of the Democratic Party and assuming an iconic position, Obama has ripped the movement in half. Many Democrats and progressive activists find themselves unable to oppose Obama for the authoritarian powers he has assumed. It is not simply a case of personality trumping principle; it is a cult of personality.

this is silly. Most democrats have been disillusioned with Obama for awhile. We aren't public about it for the same reasons republicans weren't public about not being a Bush supporter anymore. You don't want to lose face re: the other side.

That's sweet. Now, if y'all would just quit playing the race card when people on the right criticize him, I'd be happy.

The whole thing is a bought and paid for dog and pony show. The corporations and banks control western "democracies" now and have for 40 years.

Yeah, when I was younger we all thought the oppressors would be the conservatives. Boy were we wrong.
