Why do we let the left get away with their reckless historical revisionism regarding immigration debate in American political lore?

When has there ever been a time when it was a consensus by both parties that mass immigration unchecked is an expression of "American" values?

Hell, even 1880-1920, the high tide of immigration rates to our land, still was vetted and patrolled
