it was only a matter of time. I've said this for years, these people come escaping communism, so American liberalism needed to keep moving toward the left, and Asian americans would begin moving right (versus just having liberals drift left of them)

These are midterms therefore these voters tend to be more informed and more attentive to issues. Its the increase in automatons who come out for the presidential that will swamp the GOP.

Outside of blacks I don't think the races are as monolithic as everyone thinks...they're standard immigrants that came here of their own free will for a better life. They're more likely to adopt the voting habits of the region and/or class they ultimately settle into. They're not burdened with the foxhole mentality fostered through forced immigration, enslavement and disenfranchisement suffered by the blax.

Or the millennial Asians just stayed home, GOP didn't really win, Obumma just lost.

The trend is the important part. Obama won Asian voters 71% to <29% in 2012. The GOP won Asians 50% to 49% in 2014. I know this was the midterms however if the GOP can keep the Asian vote in the mid 40's in 2016 that would still be considered a victory, IMO.

I thought people would expect this, but you did get one bite from Gumbo....who is actually making good points.

Obama being a "star" in 2008 with very favorable media coverage and a savvy campaign combined with the GOP's more careful approach in 2014 contributed to those differences as well.
2016 will probably result in more turnout favorable to Dems and that should be considered when measuring progress like this.
Republicans are making in-roads, but they should not get discouraged if their % support among Asians and Latinos drops a little relative to mid terms. They are doing the right thing. Rome wasn't built in a day.

The softer tone by the GOP this time around had a lot to do with it. I work with a lot of asians, and they are almost all conservative but in 2012 several said they want to vote republicans but feel like the republicans are racist.
we had a big conversation on it at work, and all the asians (mostly south asians) said they liked conservative policy but just couldn't stomach the rhetoric by the GOP.
I wonder if they can keep it up through 2016?

Those are important gains that the republicans are making. There is still a long way to go, but the ground game is apparently much improved. They are on the right track if they keep this up.
Not really. If you study voting trends, Hispanics ALWAYS vote more heavily Republican in midterm elections and then switch back to the Dems during presidential election years. This trend has been going on for quite a while now. Why is it any different this time??
