The Battle of Berkeley (National Review)

quote:
If the media accurately and comprehensively reported on leftist mob violence, it would see that a pattern has emerged: On campus and in the streets, a violent or menacing core seizes the ground it wants, blocks access to buildings, and shuts down the speech or events it seeks to suppress. This violent core is often surrounded and protected by a larger group of ostensibly “peaceful” protesters who sometimes cheer aggression wildly and then provide cover for the rioters, who melt back into the crowd. After the riot, the polite progressives condemn the violence, urge that it not distract from the alleged rightness of the underlying cause, and then do virtually nothing to enforce the law and punish the offenders.
We’ve seen this play out time and again as mobs shut down campus speech, occupy campus buildings, and even assault innocent people — all without facing any real fear of arrest or meaningful punishment. In the aftermath of the Middlebury College incident, where protesters blocked Charles Murray from speaking, surrounded his car as he tried to leave, and sent a professor to the hospital, academics from across the political spectrum said all the right things. But the authorities have so far done nothing. Conservative Princeton professor Robert George has taken to tweeting a daily reminder that the mob is still winning:
Robert P. George:
45 DAYS, still no one has been expelled or prosecuted for the mob violence and attack on academic freedom at Middlebury. #remembermiddlebury

The National review discredited itself during the primaries

Because you disagreed with them regarding Trump as a candidiate does not equal them "discrediting themselves".
ETA: Besides, what does that have to do with the article posted? You do realize that National Review allows each contributor the independence to voice their own opinion, and that the writers often disagree with each other?

Hypothetical: If the violence ramps up even more over time, will we eventually get a Fort Sumter level incident that could trigger another civil war?
Auburn is too soon I think, but the way these things are gradually escalating someone on one side or the other is going to get killed eventually.

As opposed to the Huffington Post that refused to "dignify" Trumps canidacy because he wasn't a credible candidate?
You guys are the biggest assholes there ever were

Unlikely.

I'm not too enamoured with either of mine right now.
Start the rumble.

I hope it doesn't happen, but the left has been getting increasingly violent and Berkeley showed that some on the right are starting to fight back. Yes, these are mostly the extremes on both sides, but it doesn't take much of a spark to light a match, and the current political climate in the country is excellent kindling.

Lulz.
John Derbyshire agrees with you.

Why lulz? Hansen was pro-Trump and he's possibly the best contributor of the bunch. French was very never-Trump, but Williamson was simply more critical of Trump than Trumpers would like. He probably voted for Trump reluctantly, as did many Trump voters.

Let the extremes fight. In a battle between the commmie left and the nazi right.
We all win.

Ha! You cite Derbyshire? The term "racist" has practically lost all relevant meaning, but still, what Derbyshire posted was unacceptably racist for a magazine that strives to improve intelligent discussion of politics and world events.
Don't be obtuse.

quote:I'm not sure about it. I've heard a lot of super left SJW people I know complain about the "black bloc" protesters, but the above description does fit what I have seen.
This violent core is often surrounded and protected by a larger group of ostensibly “peaceful” protesters who sometimes cheer aggression wildly and then provide cover for the rioters, who melt back into the crowd. After the riot, the polite progressives condemn the violence
The traditional plan since the 60's has been to start violence and when people retaliate (i.e. defend themselves), play the victim and try to get iconic images of the "righteous" being oppressed. This is how we got Kent State and Chicago 1968.
But if the people calling the shots for these protesters are boomers in their 60's and 70's, I don't think they realize how things work now. Everything is on video now. They can't just film the retaliation and expect sympathy. Their provocations are also recorded for all to see. If someone were to be killed at one of these things, the "sides" would just argue about who's at fault and no single media outlet has the credibility anymore to pass a definitive judgement.
I have no problem with Conservatives continuing to show up regularly and beating their asses. The SJW's won't get the nobility they're looking for. They'll just keep getting their asses kicked, again and again. America is burned out on all of this crap, and most people just see it as a great form of entertainment.
BTW, the black bloc assholes wear masks because they travel around the country doing this shite and they don't want to be filmed in multiple cities starting shite. It would destroy their "I'm representing my community and we're outraged" bullshite line. The best thing you can do if you run into them is to pull the masks off and see to it that their faces are on camera.
