"I've never had much respect for BuzzFeed.

But I have only contempt for it now. And it is not just for publishing information about President-elect Donald Trump and Russia that it did not verify. It’s also for Ben Smith, BuzzFeed’s editor, attempting to explain the move in high-sounding rhetoric suggesting that doing so is what journalism looks like today.

BuzzFeed could not have given Trump better ammunition with which to vilify the press as dishonest, biased and all the other claims he makes in trying to inoculate himself against valid criticism.

I wish he had saved all his wrath for BuzzFeed, which clearly deserves it.

Thanks to BuzzFeed, all of us in the press are diminished.

Worse, instead of verified information they can trust, citizens get more salacious rumor from the Web and rancor from the president-elect.

Confirms the media is garbage.

Process to take a shot at PEOTUS for disseminating "rancor" to the citizens.

The media just can't help themselves.

Assume all news is fake until verified otherwise.

Yep.

I also assume that any article with an "unnamed source" is fake or made up until the name is released.

You do understand that high-ranking people and those privy to information can't always allow a journalist to reveal their identity, don't you?

Journos can't burn sources by outing them if it's a sensitive topic that could really hurt them.

Most major outlets (not junk like Buzzfeed) don't like the use of anonymous sources unless it's at least one person with direct knowledge of the information. In the sports world, that's how contract talks get leaked. Usually an agent, player, or organization will feed info to a journalist under "unnamed sources" to see if anything gains traction.

Of course. BUT, it's become a crutch in recent years. Every other article only references "anonymous sources". A lot of times, that's a senator like McCain, trying to spread rumors against their opponent.

A step back needs to be taken here.

And CNN sticks by it, with Anderson Cooper laughing nervously.

Poor example. It was proven his Dad took a huge payment under the table, but no proof ever surfaced that Came knew about it.

It still should have DQ'd him and Auburn.

Glad to see more people coming out against fake or even context massaging.

Anyone heard from Bannon on this?

I'm never going to let BuzzFeed live down this quote from their editor Ben Smith:

quote:

I think we are now in a media environment where you have to engage in false statements.

That's all you need to know about BuzzFeed. They're open that they're fake news and that they are liars. They are merely SJW propaganda.
