Texans overwhelmingly voted to join the Union in 1845, and Texas transferred all of its debt to the federal government between 1846-1855.

Remind Texans of this every time they claim 1) they never wanted to relinquish sovereignty, or 2) they reserve the right to reclaim autonomy anytime they wish.

With the political divide what it is as of late, I often hear this rhetoric from Texans. I say this as a native Texan myself.

Wasting your time. This idiot thinks someone pays $500 for a booth at a gun show to sell a personal gun.

This is the dumbest argument yet. Good Lord. You’re a complete moron.

The debt was $10 million in 1845, worth $410 million today. If Texas pays $410 million to fed govt, can we secede? (We have $32.7 billion budget surplus)

So we should do everything possible to help Ukraine claim autonomy but Texas is not allowed to. Got it.

You should really restrict your commentary to what kinds of Polos other men wear.

Although, I must say, that was one of the faggier threads I’ve ever seen anyone start.

SCOTUS laughed this notion out of the room 150+ years ago.

No state is ever leaving the USA. You don't have to make a response thread to an idea that is just people bitching, yet has no basis in reality.

You really think they would rule it was ok to secede after the deaths of >500,000 soldiers?

Interesting though, Jefferson Davis was never tried for treason and we know why.

With today’s government, I actually lean towards succession. We’ve been independent once and can do it again. The rest of the US wouldn’t get the electoral votes and would be perpetually in the D’s hands. Perfect. I’ll take that trade.

Texas joined the Union in 1845 as part of then-President James K. Polk's strategy to start a war with Mexico to gain California and other southwestern territories that were controlled by the Mexican government.

Unfortunately, you are correct. The FedGov would carpet bomb anyone before letting them go. They're like an abusive husband.

And get the portions of New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming that Texas relinquished claims to in exchange for the US assuming that debt?

Texas needs patience. The US will collapse upon itself under the weight of it's debt. No outsiders or uprising will do anything.
