WTF

quote:

A Louisiana parish is arguing that it should not be held liable for the rape of a 14-year-old girl in a juvenile detention center because the victim “consented” to be sexually assaulted by a 40-year-old corrections officer at the facility.

The victim, now 20, filed a civil lawsuit against her assailant, former guard Angelo Vickers, as well as Terrebonne Parish.

The age of consent in Louisiana is 17, but court documents allege that “Vickers could not have engaged in sexual relations within the walls of the detention center with [the victim] without cooperation from her. Vickers did not use force, violence or intimidation when engaging in sexual relations.”

So the parish doesn't know the law?

Authoritative figure in Terrebonne engaged in sexual acts with 14 yr old.

14 yr old is now twenty and suing parish.

Parish official states that acts were consensual, which is immoral at the least.

How can any justify the acts of a guard becoming involved with a 14 yr old is beyond reprehensible.

I suspect she is suing the parish because they have the money.

She better have some proof or at least reported it to someone way back then. You can't send a man to prison based on her word alone, especially after 6 years.

Yeah,it's a crime even if consensual, but I still think juvie girl is just looking to get paid.

And the tax payers suffer. The corrections officer made the decision and should be held responsible. Unless you can prove that the parish directed this to happen then I don't think this girl should get a bunch of tax payer money.

Unbelievable--blame the 14 year old? Perhaps a mass firing at the Terrebonne Parish jail is in order from top to bottom and the outside law firm defending the jail should be immediately replaced.

She was in their custody. That means she was their responsibility. And so was their employee.

Probably, but irrelevant. Guard broke the law and should suffer the consequences. The parish is just trying to cover its arse. Behind what? Nothing, apparently.

As if the parish wouldn't throw the book at any other 49 year old who had "consentual" sex with a 14 year old who wasn't on their payroll. How hypocritical can you be?

I can't believe this sentiment is shared on this board.

So maybe she is trying to get paid, the fact that a 40 yr old man had sex with a 14 yr old girl is awful. Add to that the officials are trying to place the blame on the girl, and you get a truly bizzarro story.

And then you get posters saying the girl is just trying to get paid.

The whole world has gone mad!!!

I get how things are going to go. After having managed employees for years I just think realistically. You can't have control over what an employee does 24/7. You also can't fix stupid.

Another one that goes into the "It's legal when cops do it" bin.

if you hire stupid and can't fire stupid, then you are liable for stupid's actions.

I get that, but that's not as excuse to attempt to justify the unjustifiable.

At what point do we as citizens begin to hold our gov't officials accountable?
