Microsoft’s response to Charlottesville comes as Silicon Valley appears to be taking a stronger stance against hate speech, neo-Nazis, and white nationalists. Prominent white nationalist publication the Daily Stormer was dropped by GoDaddy yesterday, and Google also announced plans to cancel the site’s registration with Google Domains. Discord also banned servers that promote Nazi ideology, and Facebook has started deleting links to a viral attack on a Charlottesville victim. Intel CEO Brian Kzranich also stepped down from President Donald Trump’s jobs advisory board.

I like how they include the Intel CEO stepping down from Trump's board with the others.

Eh, private businesses, I suppose.

The distancing themselves from Trump because of some random shitbags is so weird to me.

It's a different time than even when Obama was President. Trump could announce that he personally will line up every neo Nazi and KKK member and mow them down with a machine gun, and it still wouldn't be enough for the left.

That is because the statues are an excuse to declare war on us.

They don't give a shite about statues

It's a slippery slope that I could easily see leading to dangerous uses. However, I'm not gonna get my dander up over kicking Nazis and white supremacists off the island.

Maybe he should try it.

Funny how they never were outraged like this when a black panther shot and killed police at a black lives matter rally.

Their rights but, as always, it's the hypocrisy that is astounding.

It wouldn't be until he lined up millions of his average supporters, then his family, then himself. Then...MAYBE...

majority of those distancing themselves have consumer based products. UnderArmor, Intel, Merck, Tesla.

They are worried about boycotts, or even the threat of a boycott.

This isnt some principled stand. This is about money, plain and simple.

They should sue for discrimination. I mean if you can sue a bakery for not making a gay cake...what's the difference?

Can they do the same for sites that promote terrorism and jihad?

That's the thing with these tech companies. I'm all for them doing what they want as a private business, but it'd be nice to see some consistent logic.

I understand that, but their fears are pretty much always unfounded and completely overblown. No one is refusing to buy a Tesla because Musk was on some economic advisory board. It's all political grandstanding because the hip thing to do is hate everyone to the right of Rachel Maddow..
